Re: lenovo y700 80NV disk usage

Hello yulia_smith

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

I believe it is normal for the usage to spike up, it is meant to use more as it is working harder to carry out those tasks.

If you`re worried, you can always run a hardware scan through LSC, and keep an eye out for the SMART tests, if these fail, they will mean there is trouble with the storage drives, otherwise, it should be fine.

1. Please click on the following link
2. Under the section ‘Download’ select the relevant Hyperlink dependant on whether your Lenovo is running Windows 7/8/8.1 32 bit or 64 bit.(Will work on Win10)
3. When prompted, select save and browse to a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files.
4. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lscsetup_x86_26001.exe.
5. Double-click the installation file icon to start the installation.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions via the installation wizard that will install Lenovo Solution Centre on your system.
7. Once installed you will have a ‘Lenovo Solution Centre’ icon on your desktop please click to open this.
8. Once solution center is opened please select ‘Checkup’ then ‘Hardware Scan’ and ‘Full Scan’
9. This will take up to 20 minutes, see if this can find any errors.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: lenovo y700 80NV disk usage

I was worried of that, more often than not this will mean that there is hardware trouble with the storage drives.

They failed or are about to.

I would recommend that you try and backup any data you do not want to lose as soon as you are able, then you can attempt a factory reset, if the warning persists after that, then it will definitely be a hardware fault.

Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine

1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. On a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key.
2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this)
3. Select “restore from the initial backup” and then “Next”.
4. Click “start” and accept the warning messages.
Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

If the issue persists after the reset, I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: lenovo y700 80NV disk usage

i tried installing a new copy of window 10

downloading drivers

installing lenovo solution center

testing the hard drive again ..and Unfortunately i got the same result

excuse me... but what's the difference between  smart status test   ...and short/drive smart self test   , and why the second failed while the first passed !

i  installed seatools (seagate official tool for hard disk) ...the result ...s.m.a.r.t check >>passed  ,  short drive self test >> passed

i tried hd tune pro ....results shown below n.png14-March-2018_20-31.png

44 days remaining on warranty ... should i request a replacement or ignore "lenovo solution center " test results ?!

The report should have the details what the warning is about but nobody here can see it as you linked to a file on your computer. If you upload the file "Report.html" as an attachment here, others can take a look at it.

Are there any reasons you think there is any problem with the hard drive? They are usually pretty reliable unless dropped or subjected to other shock.

Re: lenovo y700 80NV disk usage

I looked at the report but it doesn't show any details. If I had to guess, I'd say the problem is most likely with the Lenovo tool itself, not the hard drive. There were reports about other bogus errors generated by this utility in the past ("mathematical operations test failed", etc.)

Still, for the peace of mind, I'd suggest you run Seagate SeaTools (hard drive manufacturer's testing tool): https://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

If all the tests complete fine, it's highly likely the drive is OK. If this utility also shows an error, the drive should be replaced. Some more detailed instructions how to use it are here: https://www.seagate.com/files/www-content/support-content/downloads/seatools/_shared/downloads/pdf/S...

Windows also has a built-in way to check a drive for errors but it's very basic. Seagate's utility is a better way to go but, just for reference, here is this alternate approach if you don't want to install anything: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/184611en

In any case, the drive is slow by design, not because it's faulty. Replacing it won't change this. It'd be a big performance boost to get an SSD and install Windows there. You could still keep the hard drive inside the laptop and use if for documents, data, less often used programs, etc.
