i have a problem with my y720 ssd Samsung 512gb drive. after bios update, it got locked and now i cant use it anymore (when i bought it i put a hdd password in bios). please provide a tool for secure erase it,i have it now in my gf' laptop (acer aspire v15 it has a m2 slot) because in my y720 i cant get past bios password prompt.
i tried thinkpad thinkpad secure erase but when i made free dos boot usb with rufus drverase replied it can only be run in real dos environment, which is outrageous since there is no way you can have a boot usb with real dos now (i tried with ms dos 6.22 boot disk)
i just want to erase the **bleep** ssd. i i tried ubuntu live and no luck (it recognized it using lsblk command but nvme-cli erase commands can't erase it, it simply can't be erase, it's frozen or something), the same with partmagic (this time it didnt recognize it). in acer windows10 x64 sees it but i cant initialize.it. I don't want its contents anymore, I just want to erase it. Period. And then put it back in my y720 and reinstall win10. Ssd is model mzvlw512hmjp-000L2.

Hi icatalin78,
Greetings.
About the passwords from the hardware manual (page24):
" Hard-disk password There are two hard-disk passwords (HDPs): + User HDP - for the user + Master HDP - for the system administrator, who can use it to get access to the hard disk drive even if the user has changed the user HDP Attention: If the user HDP has been forgotten, check whether a master HDP has been set. If it has, it can be used for access to the hard disk drive. If no master HDP is available, neither Lenovo nor Lenov authorized service technicians provide any services to reset either the user or the master HDP, or to recover data from the hard disk drive. The hard disk drive can be replaced for a scheduled fee."
Similar to this and this discussion. The HDD password is secured in the HDD firmware itself so it may be better to just replace the drive instead of compromising the entire board.
Regards

first of all, thanx for reply,i i didnt know it was a maintenance manual available, good to have it. now,my problem is a bit delicate because i har set only the user hdp and i didnt set a master hdp, at least from what i remember. then, and this is all weird, i i didnt forget the user hdp, it just doesn't work anymore after i did the bios update which is again weird.it's not recognized anymore. from what is look like, after bios update, the user hdp i previously set changed somehow and now it is not recognized anymore. i never changed my user hdp and more importantly,i didnt forget it. anyway, now i put it in my gf's acer v15 as a seconday hdd (it has a m2 slot) and waiting to find a tool to unfreeze it and erase it so maybe i can use it again. meanwhile,i bought another ssd for my y720.
