I want to buy ssd to my y-700 i saw many threads on this topic but i still haven't found an answer to one question is the m.2 slot speed capped because i saw some peaple having problem with write and read speed being capped to 1,5 gb/s i want to buy the fastest ssd my laptop can handle so i wont have problems in the future. I wanted to buy evo 960 but some peaple had problems with it not being recognized as a boot drive

Re: y-700 ssd upgrade

Hi Squaretastic,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number /MTM (ex. 80NV0175US) from the sticker or check it from here? This would allow us to be specific on your machine.

Similar discussions with fellow members verified their upgrade here, here and here. And there are couples more using an m.2 pcie NVMe and some would report being capped to certain speed but still would be the fastest SSD technology in the market today. There are compatible SSD recommended by the OEM from the hardware manual aside from those confirmed by fellow members including evo960.

You can take your time to review your upgrade and likewise check return options for non OEM parts since theres no 100% guarantee when we do our personal upgrades.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Update us soon as convenient.

Regards

Re: y-700 ssd upgrade

Hi Squaretastic,

Those link discussions above does confirm same m.2  PCIe NVMe ssd upgrades.

OEM specific recommended SSD are here in the parts lookup page for your 80NV016GPB. Click on "Compatible" under configuration and filter commodity type to solid state drives. It also list substitutes for you.

Regards
