Re: y540 battery life

2019-12-01, 19:14 PM

My Y540's specs: I7 9750h, Gtx 1660ti, 16gb ram, 256gb ssd + 2tb hdd, 144hz 15.6"

I bought this laptop for college, and here's what i did to elongate my battery's life for when i don't want to game:

1-Open Lenovo Vantage App and enable Hybrid mode so that the laptop uses Intel hd graphics when the Nvidia GPU is not needed

2-Turn off Intel turbo boost using Throttlestop (no undervolting)

3-I didn't have a 60hz profile in my screen settings, so i created a custom 60hz refresh rate profile using Custom Resolution Utility (this is for when you don't need the 144hz refresh rate)

4-Turn off the keyboard backlight by pressing Fn+Space and the logo light by pressing FN+L

5- lower brightness to 60%

6- Create a Windows power profile that limits cpu usage to 10-20% (I use this because i only open basic apps when i'm not gaming)

Using these steps, I was able to achieve 6hrs of battery life while watching youtube on google chrome and opening microsoft word files.

How did you get the monitor to display 60 Hz instead of 144 Hz? i tried doing that via CRU and looked up several different tutorials on YouTube but when i set everything up i still can't see the option to change the refresh rate to 60 Hz

Hi @Mehdi5, you can enable hybrid mode in Lenovo Vantage apps and reboot, after reboot Intel UHD graphic should appear in device manager, if you still see nothing, reboot into BIOS and under graphic change from discrete graphic to switchable graphic option.

Should I Enable the Turbo Boost in Throttle stop when I want to play games, or does it automatically detect when it's plugged?

Hi, i think i managed to fix the problem

i was trying to fix this problem because soon i will need my laptop to use outsdide, so i tried a lots tutorials and nothing worked, but... something has worked to me

im not sure what but after that, i had just a poorly 2 or less battery life

  1. download the latest version of nvidia drivers, return to default my setups
  2. disable MSI afterburn. i mean, even unistall it
  3. Go to your battery plan, create a battery power plan, change to 0% minimun  and 5% maximum consuption ( the processor will work at 780 mhz but do no t worry, thats enoght to use your laptop with out lagging. The laptop will consume 12- 13 watts
  4. Enable battery life saver at 100%

5. Download Opera Web Browser and enable ther battery saver mode

After that i managed to have at least 4:30 of battery life but im sure that i can reach more. ( i was using Word, Edge with vídeo, Light screen 60 -70%, keyboard and mouse plugged)

I ll take some pics for u with awesome battery life, 8 , 6, 5, hours

Im happy because i though i had a defective battery or maybe that the lenovos battery suck, but not, it will las the time the promise

I have read that MSI has some invisible process and that consume that battery
