I also repasted with Thermal Grizzly, but that paste is not suitable for laptops as it dries out above 80. I strongly recommend noctua nt h2, that one worked like magic! Also have you tried to undervolt?

yes, i am undervolted by 135mV, but on performance mode in Vantage...the power limit raises to around 60 or 70w and thats where things get messy. BF5 is a very CPU intesive game and sometimes even with RayTracing on i seems that on 64 player maps i am CPU bottlenecked...since the GPU dives to 75-85 % utilisation. While the CPU throttles under 92-95 C to 3500-3700 Mhz. I tried to change the paste in the laptop but I miss a scredriver bit to fit perfectly the cooler screws since two of the screws are very very tight and will not move.

I would not measure it by BF V as it's real CPU killer and only game running really hot on my system. When I run at 4.Ghz it gets up to 84,85. What about other games too?

Re: y540 heat and BIOS issues

Bought my lenovo y540 2060 rtx 5 days ago. Using nvidia geforce Experience optimization, i Get up to 98c spikes and running on 85-93 avrage BFV. Apex legends is also running high temps. Have also tried various settings to get the temps down. Should i just return it or is it normal?

also wondering if undervolting/stress testing can **bleep** up my hardware ?

The temperatures are normal for a stock paste and for bf5. You don't need to return the laptop. Stress testing and undervolting will not damage your laptop. Undervolting can make your system unstable if you undervolt too much. -120, -140 mV should be good. I use intel XTU.

Thanks for the reply. Have tested undervolting, both -125 and 140 + cooling pad. If im lucky it drops around 1-2c

The temps will not drop too much because the Boost will rev up the frequency to a higher state. Check the frequency of the CPU after undervolting. It should go to around 3.8-4.0 GHz.

The boost is automatic. It will ramp up the frequency based in the CPU temp and thermal mode from Lenovo Vantage. Performance mode will give you the highest performance allowing for a higher power consumption. You can try quiet mode for reduced power consumption, but be aware it will reduce power consumption for GPU also.
