Question

What is a Minidump which some forumers are discussing and engineering are requesting in order to troubleshoot my issue? How do I create a minidump? How do I setup my Windows to ensure I have a Minidump when the system crash?

Answer

Minidump is used for programers / engineers to investigate on what driver / application or hardware which could cause the crash. Therefore when you are having Blue Screen issue with your laptop / desktop, a minidump is requested in order for them to trobleshoot the issue.

 

Below are the steps on how to enable minidump.

 

Windows XP step

 

  1. Right Click on Computer
  2. Select Properties
  3. Select Advance tab
  4. At Startup and Recovery section, select Settings
  5. Go to "Write debugging information"
  6. Ensure that "Small memory dump (64KB) is selected
  7. Press "Ok"
  8. Once the settings for Minidump is set, try to recreate the crash
  9. Once you have the crash, reboot your laptop
  10. Click Start
  11. Click Run
  12. Type "%systemroot%\minidump"
  13. You will then have a minidump.
  14. Upload it to a file sharing site of your choice then share the link for the community to assist for debugging.

Windows 7
