21 Day Return Policy Question

Hello. I am from Canada and I  ordered a T510 on Jan 23, 2011 and received it on Feb 5, 2011.

 I used the notebook for about ~4 hours  and found the notebook had some problems so I called technical support. I was informed my problems could either be repaired or replaced due to the 21 Day Return Policy and I was given a case # and another # to call.  The rep on the other # never gave me a clear answer about if it would be repaired or replaced, even though I asked for a replacement, just that a email would arrive in about 3 days. Also I was told it would take about, "1 week to 10 days," but for what, I don't know. I will call back ASAP.

 

So...

a) Can I get a replacement under the 21 Day Return Policy?

b) Am I going to be charged the 15% restocking fee for a replacement? (Because I opened it?)

c) If a replacement is possible, how long will be without a notebook? (the 10 days - 1 week period or more?)

 

Thanks for any info!

 

PS - Not related to this question. Any T510 owners ever smell burning plastic or similar smell coming from the vent on the left side when they first got their notebook? I am thinking it is because the parts in the notebook are new...

As for burning smell, it could be thermal paste, it should go away in few days or a week time, however if it doesn't you should definitely get the system checked up by lenovo support.

I would say, depends on how severe the issue is. What sort of trouble are you experiencing with it?

The biggest thing is the whinning / hissing noise that I can hear especially when the background is very quite. I researched on the forum here and elsewhere and it looks like a item on the motherboard has to be physically changed. The tech also did say what you said about DOA so I rather take the risk with  a replacement.  Can you shed any light the 15% restocking fee? I don't think I have to pay because I am not returning but replacing the item...

Only lenovo can determine that, I would suggest calling sales again on Monday with the case #.


As for hissing noise, you can try setting different parameters in ThinkVantage Power Manager, be sure to switch to Advanced once you launch it, you will find a whole new world of options in there.
