8GB RAM Laptops

Having just released new laptops based on Intels next platform Centrino 2 (Montevina), I was eagerly awaiting the next step: 8GB RAM.

Sadly I see we still have 4GB limit.

Any ideas when laptops will catch up and allow us who run many VMs to get more than 4GB RAM?

both the PM965 and GM965 chipsets support 8GB.   here is just one account of a T61p owner successfully using two 4GB DDR2-667 modules.

micron (and crucial), samsung, and kingston all have 4GB PC2-5300 SODIMMs on the market.   i'm sure there are others, too.

Does anyone know if the R61 supports this?  Mine has the GM965 chipset, rev C0.

according to intel, the GM965 chipset supports 8GB.

Can I ask *where* you saw that Intel says the PM965 and GM965 support 8GB RAM? I can only see documentation that says 4GB max?? Nick

i currently have 8GB working perfectly in my X61s.   there are countless users across the web who have been successful with installing two 4GB DDR2-667 SODIMMs in PM965/GM965 systems.   intel may not have updated their documentation to match this fact but that doesn't make it any less of a reality.
