Accidental Damage Protection

2011-12-13, 8:37 AM

Hi all,

I'm thinking of extending the warranty of my recently bought X220 to encompass accidental damage protection ($150 extra), but I have some small questions regarding it.

First of all, where can I buy it? I'm from Belgium, and looking at this page I can't really find where (and how) I should buy that warranty extension.

Second, is this a one-time use warranty? Not that I'm planning to drop the thing multiple times, just wondering :)

Third, is there any kind of minimal requirement to the damage done before Lenovo would repair the laptop (I can't imagine them replacing a chassis because a customer complained about some scratches)?

And lastly, when I would want to get the laptop repaired, do I need to send it to Lenovo myself, or is it picked up?

Thanks in advance! I actually wanted to send these questions to Lenovo support (instead of dumping them on this board), but I couldn't find a support e-mail / contact form.

Hi Maleadt and welcome to the Community,

I think I can help with a few of your questions.

On the page that you found, scroll down and there will be a listing for Europe. There will be a link to contact your local Business Partner.  That will bring up a map and you can use that to find local partners.

The accidental warranty isn't a one time deal, but if you bust it up 3 times in one month, I'm sure there will be questions raised.

As far as the rest of your questions go, I'm not sure, but I'm sure that if you get ahold of a business partner, they will be able to answer the rest of your questions.

Make sure that you are actually buying an extended warranty and not one that runs along with your existing warranty.

Dave

the accidental damage would require you to send the laptop to depot for a quote and assessment.

Scratches are not covered, but if the damage renders the laptop inoperable then it will be covered.

Thanks for the comments!

I've now found a warranty provider not too far from me, thanks for providing a pointer to that map. I'll be sure to contact them with further questions.

About the 30 day restriction, when filling out my serial number (on one of the warranty check pages out there), I read that accidental damage protection warranty could be bought up to 90 days after the purchase. I'd think that this is already specific to my device (a X220)?

this is what is on lenovo.com
ThinkPad Protection and Lenovo Care Protection Services

If you are purchasing a new machine, you may upgrade your service with ThinkPad Protection and Lenovo Care Protection.

ThinkPad Protection or Lenovo Care Protection must be purchased within 30 days of your new Lenovo notebook, desktop and workstation product order, and your service term begins concurrently with the product warranty.

@ topmahof > The accidental warranty isn't a one time deal, but if you bust it up 3 times in one month, I'm sure there will be questions raised.

for thinkpad tablets its

For Lenovo ThinkPad Tablets, repair is limited to one service "event" per year with one replacement (if needed) allowed over the lifetime of the tablet.

EDIT> also they have conflicting info on protection service

ThinkPad Protection must be purchased within 90 days of the purchase of your new ThinkPad and your service term begins concurrently with the product warranty.

Is there an option for onsite accidental damage support versus return to depot?

What is my limit for ADP replacements/year?

If I work for Fed Gov't is there an esclation path to override limitations?
