I just got a scam e-mail

2013-11-26, 20:04 PM

From Lenovo Settlement Claims Administrator xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx via nf137.n-email.net

Notice PIN#: 10xxxxxxx
Lenovo’s records indicate that you purchased a Lenovo computer between June 4, 2008 and August 30, 2012 from Lenovo’s website, pursuant to an advertised discount or “savings” price.
Your purchase may qualify you to receive a $50 cash payment as part of a settlement between Yousef Bouguerba and Lenovo (United States) Inc. (the “Settlement”).
The Settlement resolves claims by Mr. Bouguerba that Lenovo advertised false discounts from represented former prices. While Lenovo denies wrongdoing or liability of any kind associated with the claims asserted, Lenovo has agreed to settle the dispute for the sole purpose of avoiding the uncertainties, expenses, and time of potential litigation.
If you submit a valid Claim and Release Form by February 24, 2014, you will receive a check for $50 from Lenovo (“Cash Benefit”).
You may submit a Claim and Release Form online by clicking on this link and following the instructions there: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The PIN# on this Notice will assist in making your claim.
Alternatively, you may request a Claim and Release Form from the Claims Administrator at the telephone number or address below and submit it by mail.
If you do not wish to participate in the Settlement, you do not need to do anything. You will receive no individual Cash Benefit, but you will not be giving up your right to sue Lenovo or related entities.
RELEASE. If you do participate in the Settlement and receive the Cash Benefit, you will release (i.e., give up) any and all claims that you may have against Lenovo and related entities regarding Lenovo’s discounting practices with regard to the Affected Models. For a list of Affected Models, visit the settlement website at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This is not a class action, and there is no pending litigation between Mr. Bouguerba and Lenovo. Additional information is available at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or from the Claims Administrator at (800 xxxx-

xxxx.

The link goes to KCC LLC (Kurtzman Carson Consultants). If this  company is legit, then this could be a legit email, not sure. The Lenovo settlement is not in their active lawsuit list though.  http://classaction.kccllc.net/

Edit: I just submitted mine. If it's a scam just to get your mailing address, it is a very eloborate one since it does not ask any other personal information. Apperenatly it is only for California buyers so that may be  be why not many people received it?

I was iffy about the links in the email .. since what is written as "lenovodiscountsettlement.com" doesn't actually look like it will lead you there by clicking the link.

The domain is also from qgemail.com ... shouldn't all Lenovo email come from a _______@lenovo.com email address?

Pretty sure this is spam.

Is it possible they got our info from this messageboard? I mean, this IS the Lenovo messageboard and it DOES say the state for some of us...I'm not acting on the email until I get more info, it smells pretty darn fishy if you ask me.

I sent a query to Snopes.com -- it's not on their radar (yet) as a scam -- will post if they report anything, or check their site.  The phone number in the e-mail connects to a typically legit-sounding robot maze.  We have a few more weeks.

I received the e-mail. My alarms go off whenever there is a hyperlink that says one thing but the actual link goes to a different address. However, after digging around it looks legit to me and I've submitted my claim. The website itself and company are legit. I'm familiar with a class action lawsuit against BMW (the auto maker). It was handled by this firm and the settlements in that case pointed the same website.
