Hi Tim,

Please contact me regarding keyboard replacement on my T500. I purchased in in the end of September and it suffers from SEVERE keyboard flex, especially around mid-left part.

Thank you very much,

The keyboard P/N of my W500 I just ordered is:

42X6355  SBB KYB US ENGLISH

Can anyone verify if that is the same P/N number of the keyboard they've received with their flexing systems? Thanks in advance.

The part number on the order for the keyboard is 42X6355.  Tim said that "the manufacturing has shifted the majority of production to the alternate keyboard design previously used on '61 series systems keyboard based on the alternate design is FRU 42T3143..."

So should I assume that I just missed the change in manufacturing to the t61 keyboard and when I receive it that it will have the original flexing keyboard?

42X6355 is the manufacturing part number for a keyboard and does not indicate which keyboard FRU part number you will receive.   please assume nothing until your system shows up. ;)

if you do happen to have an issue with your keyboard then please follow up with us in this thread and tim will take care of you.

Hello Tim,

Can you please contact me via email? I have received a new T400 with a lot of keyboard flex on the left side.

Thanks in advance, and best regards,

Gokalp

Would appreciate an email regarding the keyboard swap. This T400 keyboard is pretty flexy as well as acoustically unappealing.

TIA

Re: Keyboard Flex discussion - T400 / T500 / W500 ThinkPad customers

I have been quite interested in this discussion as I just placed an order for a T400 2764CTO on 12/2 through shoplenovo.com.  I had debated for quite a while over the various available manufacturers but finally was persuaded by the unusual intensity and longevity of the Thinkpad's customer loyalty.  I was amazed to see so many people in forums stating that they were on their fourth, fifth, or more consecutive Thinkpad.  That type of brand loyalty is hard-won in today's consumer climate.  I was primarily looking for a highly dependable, reliable, and feature-rich mid-level machine that was backed by a company with a reputation for good customer service.  The T400 seemed to meet my needs.  I have been concerned, however, by the keyboard issue as I hate typing on an inconsistent or mushy one.  Now, with Mark_ and Tim_Lenovo's responses, I have been persuaded to not cancel my order.

My question for Tim_Lenovo (similar to delta2194's before me)  is whether the machine that is currently being built for me will have the T60/61 keyboard when it is shipped.  I don't want to waste my time, or Lenovo's, with a return/replacement of a keyboard and chassis combination that has unacceptable tolerances.  If that is not the current temporary default configuration, what can I do to request it?

I would appreciate an email if a forum response is not appropriate.  Thanks.

Someone on NBR reported receiving a T400 in late November with the T61 keyboard.  Of course, YMMV.

The key board flex in the T400 has got me concerned.

Here is my recent T400 order with them and the key board MFG # and FRU # are as below :

  MFG # - 42T4034, FRU # -  42T4066 KEYBOARD FRU

Could someone please let me know if this would be the trusted T61 type keyboard or the new flexer type ?

The notebook is in the UPS network with delivery possibly targetted on 12/12.
