Re: Keyboard Flex discussion - T400 / T500 / W500 ThinkPad customers

Tim,

I received my replacement keyboard and..........WOW!  So THIS is what everyone is talking about when they mention the legendary Thinkpad feel!  Having never had a Thinkpad before, I am very impressed.

In addition, I have the privilege of reporting the resolution of a problem I didn't even know I had.  As I mentioned, I have never had a Thinkpad and have never used a Trackpoint.  When I received my new computer, I tried to use the Trackpoint as detailed in the instructions but I could never seem to get the hang of it, no matter what software settings I changed.  I thought I was too dim to figure it out (especially the tap and drag bits) but when I received my new keyboard, LO and BEHOLD, the Trackpoint now operates as advertised.  The first keyboard was defective and the second one works like a charm.  I actually like and use theTrackpoint now!

Thanks again Lenovo team.  You have gained a great deal of customer loyalty through this purchasing experience.

This is great to hear! First-time ThinkPad user here too (W500), and I'm also eagerly waiting for my keyboard replacement.  Tim mentioned it should still be a couple more weeks for us Canadians to receve our keyboards. Now your post has got me really excited!

By the way I LOVE the Trackpoint too! Most of the time if I'm working at my desk I'll just attach a standard mouse to my machine to use.  But those other times I'm not at my desk I really enjoy using the TrackPoint... it's kinda fun!

Gorillawatcher (and Tim), is there a plan, are the replacements free, and are people outside NA included?

Thanks, really looking forward to having my thinkpad justify all the championing I've been doing in our Dell-oriented organisation!

Thanks Tim/Lenovo for the replacement keyboard, the feeling is MUCH better and is a huge improvement to the whole machine.

btw., my keyboard came in an incredibly large box, my T400 would have fit in there 5 times and still be overly protected by foam.

1) What Thinkpad model type do you have?

 Thinkpad T400 (2764-CTO)

2) Do you have other Thinkpads now or previously?  If so, what models?

 T61

3) How does the current model keyboard feel ?   Compared to other ThinkPads?   What have you observed specifically?  Please describe in detail - what, when, where, and how ?

Too soft. The 'enter' key sometimes will sink.

And the keyboard is a somewhat flexed.

4) If you believe your T400 / T500 / W500 keyboard exhibited abnormal flex, what actions have you taken, and what were the results?  (Some members have  reported exchanging systems, replacing keyboards, or implementing other measures to resolve)

Haven't taken any actions yet.

Hope to replace the keyboard if possible.

Re: Keyboard Flex discussion - T400 / T500 / W500 ThinkPad customers

hi guys,

I'm having a hard time finding a Belgian Azerty keyboard for my T60p (8741-C4G) and my R50p (1833-BU4).

Right now, I got qwerty's, great quality, very pleased no flex, but the T60 at work has simply a cheap keyboard (dont know the FRU but it is not as blackish, more 'flat' keys and lots of flex on the left side. I totally want to avoid that one.

So, I'm looking for 2 correct Belgian Azerty keyboards to replace my qwerty's with equal building quality.

AFAIK, the proper ones are NMB and not ALPS, right?

My T42p (2373-C1G) has a Belgian Azerty and that appears to be a Chicony, which is great as well imo.

I could phone IBM parts in Belgium, but how can I be sure if it'll be the right keyboards? (I rather keep the qwerty's instead of getting one like i have at work)

Can anyone help?

1.I'm using W500 (4058-CTO).

2.I've been using a IBM T41

3.On W500, the keyboard is somehow convex, meaning on both sides you can see the keyboard be unlevel with the laptop platform. In use it feels a bit mushy, although not so much saggy.
