Re:Lenovo dock kills entire network?

2021-02-17, 19:36 PM
I find it really unclear. I installed the "exe" manually but according Vantage everything was up to date. I rebooted and ran Vantage again. (but Dock was connected to the USB-C port instead of TB3). Now it found an update. " ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 dock Gen2 / Workstation dock 3.1.67". Is there a way to find all driver/firmware versions because this weird.

The Vantage app usually will detect updates for the laptop, not for any external devices. That is the reason why we are letting you do it manually just to make sure.

Seem the updates did not fix the issue. 2 times a flood killing the network. The first time the laptop was running (Linux). The second time the laptop was turned off. Both times unplugging did fix the issue. How many similar issues are reported? Can i eliminate my own network? (A new stable release of pfSense is releeased but i rather wait a while)

Re:Lenovo dock kills entire network?

I have been having fewer cases like this lately.

It looks like if you set the Laptop to have its MAC spoofed in the network instead of using the dock's own, this  issue show  far less often.

Also having at least one monitor connected to dock seems to help.

But overall I have to say these TB3 and USB-C (40AN and 40AS) are VERY unreliable, hardly worth the price. I would be better off with the older connector docks....

I saw this and want to chime in that these Gen 2 USB-C Lenovo docks have also given my company problems.  We recently (as in last couple weeks aka Early 2021) began updating firmware and drivers for them and users have seen an IMPROVEMENT, but they are still problematic.

Part of me thinks it's the weak USB-C connection quality.  Totally speculating here, though.

Re:Lenovo dock kills entire network?

got the same issue with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 dock gen 2, latest firmware, latest drivers. When connected to a ThinkPad T470, it kills the network after a while, and when I disconnect it from the laptop, the network goes back online.

This is so frustrating, as I got this dock specifically because my USB-C dock was giving me the same issue.

Re:Lenovo dock kills entire network?

Hi, i am the topicstarter EdwinKM (i have some account problems so i had to create a new account).
I only once had the problem with my laptop running, in all other cases the system if off and plugged in (TB3 port).
I learnt to disconnect the cable.

The most frustrating part is that the Lenovo staff is not providing any information. Is the issue known? Is it forwarded to the technical engineers?
Another user did a packet capture ( https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Thunderbolt-3-Dock-40AN-kills-local-network/m-p/5006336 ). I assume this is the culprit.

In the meanwhile they stopped selling this device. So i can only assume they *KNOW* the issue and can't/won't fix the issue. Also not providing a replacement program for users.

I am quite pleased with the Laptop firmware security support (but also some gripes with the hardware). But i think i will switch to HP or Dell in the future.
