These are the requirements and they are set in stone :smileyindifferent: I'm going to be going into Architecture so it needs to be a good laptop!

the T61p would fill those requirements.

where do you live?  If you live in Canada, you can go to www.visasavings.ca and access the lenovo site through there to save an additional 6-16%

a machine with your minimum requirements will cost about $1700 CAD (work in US exchange if you live in the US and it will be a bit less)  This includes the addes WUSXGA TFT resolution, which gives you tonnes of room on your desktop to work with, Ideal for CAD.

Do you need to have 64 bit vista?  or will 32 do fine?  Also, if you get Vista Buisiness or Ultimate, you get free downgrade rights to Windows XP, meaning if you have a program that doesn't like Vista, you can just go to XP No problem.

as far as good looking goes, I like the classic black.  Better IMO than the cheap white/silver plastic that Dell uses.  Drop your Thinkpad, and you can pick it up and keep using it (usually, obviously drop it off your roof and don't expect it to work)  Drop a Dell or a Mac and goodbye laptop.

T61 15.4" T9300 (2.5GHz 6MB L2) Windows 7 Professional x64 4GB Memory, NVidia Quadro NVS 140M

Hi JCulp711,

I am a graduate student (MScE) myself and I currently have T61 (7664):

Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4 GHz

2 Gt - DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz

14.1" TFT 1440 x 900

nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M 128Mb

I'd definitely recommend T61p if you have to use a lot of CAD software. Although T61p might not be the most inexpensive choice and you might also wan't to check out this thread about nVIDIA:

0 person found this solution to be helpful.

This helped me too
