Out-of-Warranty/Aftermarket Repairs

Would it be legal on this forum to discuss users' recommendations for specifically named repair shops they've used?  For example, I have two TPs that need motherboard service.  I looked around online and found several repair shops that sound promising and legitimate, but would like other users' reviews of their work and/or prices before I would consider shipping a unit to be fixed.

I suppose that Mark has the final say on this but if it is out of warranty I don't see what would be wrong with discussing third party repair facilities.

I'm fine with members sharing part sources and information on repair alternatives for out of warranty systems, so long as everyone agrees that:

That the discussion remains true to the spirit of members offering part and service sources, or experiences having used them to the end of helping other members with out of warranty systems to find cost effective and reliable ways of maintaining those systems.

Sounds like they do repair at the specific component level.  I have a couple laptops that might fit this type of repair...

I have used Arndt Computer Services. I have had them replace a couple of backlights for me and they did a great job. Currently they have a T41P planar board of mine with the loose GPU problem that they are going to reball for me. I'll let you know how that goes.

Another happy user of Arndt Computer Services: two backlights (both on A31p units) and two re-balling procedures (A31p and R50p) later and I couldn't be happier...the very highest recommendation I could possibly give goes to them.

And another A31p and R50p are going there in the morning...one backlight, one GPU...

That's how I found a shop (I've happily used twice) in Louisville, KY.

Well... I've had a laptop into Arndt Computer since the end of May.  Terrible followthrough, no service.  I had to continually prompt them for updates via e-mail over and over again.  A different story each time.  I finally called them today and asked for my laptop back.  I'm going somewhere else.

Arndt Computer is a family operated business..

two brothers who, when they wanted to advertise on my site, seemed businesslike..

but they seemed to want free advertising..

if they have failed to communicate that is a really bad sign..

this is not an uncommon problem with a small business..

good work = more work than the original people can handle and getting help is tricky at best and impossible at worst..

YMMV but for my favorite T60p i extended the warranty and made it on-site.. BEFORE problems presented themselves..

and if i were out of warranty i would select a lenovo dealer who specializes on thinkpads..
