Re: Stereo Mix for t61p?

[ Editado ]

Yeah, that driver was junk (both the one on MSFN and Lenovo's December release).  I had to find help to get the old driver:

http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=2486

the new driver was not only disfunctional - it was unstable beyond belief.  ruined microphone functionality .... tried it on a clean format of my system too - it was just no good.

Re: Stereo Mix for t61p?

as discussed in many unofficial forums as well, there seems to be a trend in soundmax HD audio disabling the stereo-mix feature.  Even the latest Dell laptops suffer from the same.  However, from recent news, it seems that the community backlash was severe enough that Dell is reversing its lock on the driver.  However, I have yet to see the same from Lenovo.  They tried to build sooooo many regulations into these machines for business purposes that it really ruins the ability for us to use some of the functions for legitimate purposes.

I'd really love to upgrade my wifi nic too.... the performance of the Intel AGN4965 isn't all that great.  I'd like to swap it out with an Atheros chipset but cannot find much info on whether or not it has been white listed for these machines or not (the BIOS lock feature on install of non-certified wifi equipment is just... so bizarre.  stupid FCC).

Re: Stereo Mix for t61p?

I wanted to post and see if anyone has ever come up with an answer to this issue.  I was using a T43 for work and using it to record meetings we have over the internet with other employees at remote locations.  Now that my employer updated me to the T61p I can't record the meetings any more.

It is a shame when you have a legitimate business purpose for doing something and it gets disabled because someone thinks you are stealing from them.  (RIAA)

We didn't pay a ton of money for this little puppy just so I couldn't do my job anymore.

Thank you for any help and updates.

Duane Smith.

This topic and a solution has been discussed ad-nausem over at the ThinkPad Forum:

The solution for some has become using an external sound card:

Two (I used to have Five) - T61p 15.4" WS T9300 2.5Ghz units, August 08/08 Builds with FX570M Nvidia Graphics; ... One W520 i7-2860QM w/2000M Nvidia Graphics (most recent acquisition and stupidly fast); .... One - T42 4:3 15" Flexview 1.8GHz with ATI Graphics (still perfect for traveling); ... Two - T500 15.4" units both with ATI HD3650 Graphics.

Re: Stereo Mix for t61p?

Well, that is all well and good, except they seem to be saying that there isn't really a fix other than getting another sound card.  I don't think I'm going to be able to convince the "powers that be" at my company to spring for another sound card since they just shelled out the money for a system that was supposed to work.

I tried the "hacks" and all that are over there, and it would seem that I, like most of the other follow-up posters over there are having no success.

Thank you,
Duane A. Smith

Re: Stereo Mix for t61p?

There will be no fix thanks to legal pressure from the Recording Industry Association of America (the RIAA) on computer makers to cripple sound cards .... Do some more homework by reading all the referenced threads for background info regarding the copyright and legal issues involved here.

Or, call your U.S. Congressman, Senator, etc.

I stopped whining and bought an external sound card.

Re: Stereo Mix for t61p?

Bill,

1. I have not seen a computer in years that couldn't do wave mix.
2. There is nothing in the system specifications stating that wave mix does not exist on the system.
3. There's no logical reason for wave mix to NOT exist on a system.

No need attacking people here.  I simply asked for assistance.

Thank you,
Duane

billbolton,

Could you do me the large favour of pointing me to where this is documented in the system specifications? Thanks.
