The world changes.  Very few, if any, current model laptops, from any vendor, support anything other than recording from a microphone for their on-board audio facilities.

Blame the RIAA!

Re: Why has stereo Mix been disabled on thinkpads & when do we get a formal response

Could we get an official response on the matter.

Well, this issue is not just with Lenovo laptops, it seems to apply pretty much across the board with current laptop models from all vendors. Also this site is not part of Lenovo's support mechanisms, so there no guarantee that you will get any "official" answer.

The problem appears to arise from the RIAA, so you would probably be better off hounding them, IMO.

Cheers,

Bill

Where would be an appropiate support mechanism to air this concern?

and what then is the purpose of these forums?

Re: Why has stereo Mix been disabled on thinkpads & when do we get a formal response

Yes, some Lenovo employees do read and post to this forum.  Mark is quite active, and several others post as well.  In addition, there are lurkers who just read without making public comments although sometimes they ask the mod team to either gather more information or pass along advice.

However, here are the expectations of their participation from the Welcome message:

These communities have been created to provide a high quality atmosphere in which users of Lenovo products and services may share experiences and expertise. While members from Lenovo may participate at intervals to engage in the discussions and offer advice and suggestions, this forum is not designed as a dedicated and staffed support channel.

The bottom line is there's no guarantee that you will get an answer to a question here directly from Lenovo.

On the other hand, you just might!  ;-)

Re: Stereo Mix for t61p?

on the contrary, after users in their forums complained, Dell released drivers w/ the feature enabled, and the soundcard they released drivers for is used across their machine lines...

Asus also has released stereo mix enabled drivers for their Analog Devices enabled desktops

and Toshiba's new machines with Realtek HD Audio seem to support recording stereo mix as well.

I don't want to be seen as argumentative....but i disagree that i have to accept, that this is just how things are....
I don't want to be rude...but i do want an opportunity to be heard. I fully understand that it is not guaranteed that one of the Lenovo members will see the post, but it is possible that they will.

I also feel that its my right to ask about the matter, a feature was removed that was previously available, and noone said anything to consumers, it doesn't matter if it was done by all the OEM's across the industry, that doesn't make it right.

My second reason is so that other users are aware that the feature is missing

You have made lots of claims but there is no evidence that anything has actually changed.

I don't think that either Bill or I said you couldn't ask.  We both were just answering your question about the purpose of this forum and level-setting the expectations.

and i personally asked a friend to try recording stereo mix on his Toshiba Satellite A215 series notebook running Windows Vista Home Premium. (Realtek HD Audio drivers) and he was able to accomplish that.

Also tried stereo mix on the HP TX1000 also running Realtek HD Audio and can confirm that stereo mix is present and functions.
