A2109 - ROM - Stock, rooted, deodexed, crapware removal

2012-10-22, 5:13 AM

I've created a ROM for the A2109.

Download Link: A2109A_MCL0102.zip  (md5: 29f340108b7890fb2994f2d2bc220d95)

Features

  • Based on Lenovo's stock A404 ROM
  • Rooted
  • Deodexed (allows modding/theming)
  • Zipaligned (for memory optimization)
  • Busybox preinstalled
  • Crapware removed:  Accuweather, Cut the Rope, Documents to Go, Evernote, News Republic, Norton Security, ooVoo, Low Priced Calls, Printer Share, Memo, Skype, Sugar Sync, Lenovo UI Intro Video, Zinio, Go Keyboard (and its many plugins and language packs), and YouTube
  • Updated Play Store to 3.9.16

Changelog

Version 0102

  • Initial Release based on firmware A2109A_A404_02_05_120918

Installation

I highly recommend backing up your apps and data with Titanium Backup beforehand as you'll need to do a factory reset to install.  A Nandroid backup in ClockworkMod recovery would be a good idea too, if you want a easy way back to stock.

  1. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked and you have ClockworkMod recovery installed.  See here.
  2. Download the ROM install zip from the above link and place it either in your Internal SD Card or External SD Card.
  3. Reboot into ClockworkMod recovery (either with 'adb reboot recovery' or power on and tap Vol+ immediately)
  4. In CWM, perform a "wipe data/factory reset"
  5. In CWM, choose "install zip from sdcard"
  6. Select either "choose zip from sdcard" or "choose zip from external sdcard" depending on where you placed the  ROM zip.
  7. Navigate to where you placed the zip file and select it.  Choose 'Yes' when asked to confirm install.
  8. When the install finished, go back to CWM's main menu and choose "reboot system now"
  9. The first boot up may take a longer than usual, up to a few minutes... this is normal.
  10. Go through the initial setup.
  11. If you backed up your apps and data with Titanium Backup, grab Titanium Backup from the Play Store.
  12. Restore your user apps and data in Titanium Backup (you can also restore data-only for system app IdeaDesktop, this will restore your desktop the way you had it before), then reboot once more.
  13. After it finishes rebooting, run Titanium Backup again... if it complains about your Android ID changing, choose to restore it (this may cause another reboot).  If you don't restore it your apps may not recognize the restored data (basically the same effect as doing a 'Clear Data' in Settings->Apps).
  14. Enjoy!

Mods and Themes

None yet :smileysad:

Other

Don't try to install an OTA over this, it won't work.  Let me know when Lenovo releases an update, I'll update my ROM accordingly.  If you have any issues/comments/requests post them here.  I'm going to be working on some mods next (I especially want a 1% battery).  If you come up with any mods or themes post them here.

Looks like it :)  Mine says the same, except US instead of CN.  You can go to /system/appp to confirm.  If there are no .odex files, just .apk, then it's installed.  mcl deodexed the apps.
