Ideapad Yoga 13 - Synaptics touchpad app keeps crashing

2012-11-02, 2:16 AM

Hi all,

I'm having the issue that the synaptic app in the tray keeps crashing. The touchpad continues to work, but all gestures go away. Has anyone else seen this issue? Know where I can look for logs?

Oh - and I'm able to get it going again for a few minutes by starting \Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe

Thanks

Z

I found a workaround for getting at the 64-bit driver...

First erase the "C:\Drivers\Synaptics TouchPad Driver" directory if you've previously run the installer executable.  Then run the installer executable again.  But when it says that files already exist and asks if you want to overwrite them, press the "No to All" button.  It looks like the installer first installs the 64-bit version and then overwrites it with the 32-bit version.  By saying no you leave the 64-bit installer in place and it runs correctly on the Yoga,

Please try to reinstall TP driver from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031974
Use 7-zip to unzip it and run x64\setup.exe by admin authority.

Perhaps you did not understand, but the driver you refer too will not install in a 64 bit system (even though it says it is for a 64 bit system). When you try to install it, a message appears that says "You must use a 64 bit version of DPInst.exe to install this driver. Please see the manufacture of your product for correct driver".

does this driver fix the office touchpad issue? Looks like an older driver before the problem came out.

In case anyone here was unaware, there's another thread covering that issue: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-IdeaTab-Slate-Tablets/Yoga-13-touchpad-issues/td-p/905701/highlight/true

Maybe I'll just switch to Google Docs if Lenovo and Microsoft and Synaptics can't get this fixed pdq.

Having this problem on my Yoga 2 Pro.  It crashed three times so far and I have reinstalled every time. This is getting tiring.  This is the message I get.

Unable to connect to the SynapticsPointing Device Driver

Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics Driver now?

I click no and nothing happens.  But all the gestures stop working. And I need to reinstall to get them working again.
