Re: Z560 - Core i5, Nvidia Gefore 310m - Switchable Graphics?

2011-01-09, 22:15 PM
Well, seeing as the Intel GMA HD is located within the Corei5 processor chip, which is already connected directly to the motherboard, I would assume that the physical hardware connections are already in place.

Unforunately as of yet, I can't see any way of enabling this feature ourselves, as I think a BIOS update will be needed alongside with new graphics drivers.

Thanks for the apreciation - I want this update a lot, as I have limited acccess to power plugs whilst working, and have issues with the low battery life on the Z560!

As soon as I receive an e-mail back, I'll post it up here :)

did you try 1st to install Intel Drivers and then Lenovo's one? There was similar problem on V model if i recall properly. And it was resolved like that. Ofcourse, if you dont have Intel video in device manager or BIOS swich function - you are out of luck.

Hey.

That is the central problem. Only the nvidia graphic card shows up in the device manager. I was wondering already where the GMA HD would show up (if it worked properly). So any attempts to install the intel drivers have to fail miserably :(

As long as there isn't any update from lenovo I strongly doubt that the CPU internal GPU can be utilized.

according to this page, lots of Mobile CPU has integrated HD Graphics support. And in some article long time ago, i ve read that its up to notebook manufacturer to enable it or not.

+ Doesnt Geforce 310m have an optimus technology? In this case, switching between 2 Graphic cards is automatical.

Riq12 is right - we have no intel graphics card in the device manager, only Nvidia.

Leshcat - The 310m should be capable of optimus technology, but I think it needs specific drivers, and possibly a bios update in order for the Z560 to handle it - currently the BIOS has no options at all relating to the display.

I think we really need a proper answer from Lenovo, if I get an e-mail back I'll be sure to post it up here ASAP.

Coincidently - if any other Z560 users are reading this, PLEASE comment - the more interest this topic gets, the more likely Lenovo will take an interest in sorting this out for us!

For optimus to work there should be a drop down menu in the 3d options of the nvidia driver ....

... which we don't have because there simply is no integrated graphic card to be found right now.

As long as it cannot be enabled for the z560 series Optimus will not work.

As I mentioned above I somehow cannot believe that this can be fixed by a simple BIOS update. Otherwise this would have been integrated right from the start.

I bought the notebook 4 days ago and seriously consider to RMA it - which would be shame because it makes an overall solid appearance and has no serious flaws but the lack of support of the integrated graphics is a real drawback.

OUR HOPES REST UPON RASTAMAN'S SHOULDERS ;)

I tried installing the Optimus Graphics driver direct from Nvidia but to no avail.

Riq - I've inboxed the e-mail address I was given by the chat agent if you also want to try e-mailing?

- Anyone else who wants the contact address PM me and I'll send it over :)

@rastaman_25

lol, mate, dont be naive, with high probability its not even an issue. Its simple PR move. Sooner or later will come out some Z570 with SG, so Lenovo can have extra 100 bucks for it. :)
