Oh by the way, £689 CHEAP for a laptop? Christ, that isn't cheap, far from it!

Well, I saw this:

509€ is a good price for a I5 with 4GB RAM and GF 310M

not the entire same spec, but thanks for the link.

Bbesides the point anyway, it really is plain stupid if the laptop is physically capable not to enable support for switchable graphics!

Well, i don´t think it necessary with a GF 310M. Maybe with faster GPUs, that could be. But Optimus never deactivate one of the GPUs, always both GPUs need voltage, if the Nvidia is activated, the Intel still idles.

But I don´t know whether in this NBs the Intel HD-Graphics also still idles in background

I ordered a Z560 with i3-350 and try to install WinXP; this don´t works on Optimus

It really is disappointing to hear that the z560 doesn't seem to be able to support energy saving technologies. Why sell a product without supporting features it is basically shipped with?

Returning it seems to be the only logical step.

I expected that a BIOS update wouldn't be sufficient to solve our problem. What a shame, really... It's like selling a care with a 6 gear transmission but only a geashift for five gears and then telling the customers afterwards "well, yes: You ordered your car with a transmission which is THEORETICALLY able to make use of 6 gears. But you should have checked first if it comes with the matching gearshift in the first place. Your fault HAHA!"

Another brand not to recommend if nothing is done to to solve this issue.

regards

Somewhere it´s written? I don´t see that Lenovo said: Yes, it has Optimus?

Since yesterday I have my Z560 and it´s cool :)

Thanks to no Optimus, I can install XP and it works :)

But there some strange things go on with the drivers. I can´t install Conexant HD-Audio at my first tries. Then I used -just for fun- a Realtek HD-Audio-Driver. Now I had 5 "?" in Hardware-Manager. Next step: Install Conexant, then Nvidia HD-Audio. A little bit confusing

Can anyone say, how fast the Expreß-card-slot is? Some manufacturers only use USB2.0-bus for this slot. And it would be **bleep**ty, if I buy a USB3.0-card for it and then I only have 2.0-speed

Hi All,

It's the board itself does not have the circuit to support switchable. Thus, even a new bios update won't help. I understand you're looking for switchable but i'm sorry to tell that this model is just not able to do that.

Regards,
Cleo

hmm, time for a Samsung R580 then. I'll RMA this one later on today I think, I appreciate your help though Cleo. Shame Lenovo lost out on such a great opportunity.

well, that is what I've expected ... I was also considering buying the Samsung but gave Lenovo a shot. Seems to have been a bad decision....

Thanks anyway

Question, again: Did Lenovo promise you a switchable-graphic?

If you really only need a Intel GMA, u get can choose between many laptops

Samsung R580 dn´t have switchable graphic, they use a pure Nvidia or ATI. And Samsung is more expensive, if u want a eSATA-port, much more expensive than Lenovo.

After I tried a Samsung R730, I don´t want a Samsung. Maybe their more expensive series are better, but I don´t want spent to much money for a Laptop, I use mostly my Desktop-PC
