Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

Other than the fan itself not being the problem, no. It could be bad
circuitry on the board or a software (BIOS) problem IMHO.

I also think that it's BIOS software problem... We can only wait for an update from Lenovo..

So you're saying that swapping the fan inputs solved the problem? What does it do to the cooling?

It does not solve the problem, it just makes the other fan make the noise
since one of the inputs is faulty (have not tried it myself, I am just
deducting from the above poster's description)

I just tried it. It does just make the other fan make the noise... but it is slightly quieter (maybe because it's a smaller fan). Also, I should mention that switching the inputs did drop my average temperature about 2-3c... probably since the larger fan is running all the time.

You just open the case and switch the fan connectors. There are 4 wires coming out of each fan, with the small white connectors at the end. You simply unplug them and plug each one into the other slot. You'll need to move the wires off the small fan brackets so they will reach. Like I said, this doesn't fix the noise, just makes it slightly quieter and drops temps a little bit. I'm going to test while gaming to see how it impacts GPU temperatures.

After some testing. Switching the fan inputs decreases general use temperatures and makes the clicking sound not as loud, BUT it seems to have increased temps while gaming. As a precaution, I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you are using aftermarket thermal paste like IC Diamond to keep your temps under control. Having said that, my temps under load never went above 68-70c, which is still pretty cool compared to other similar laptops. Prior to switching the fans, my temps never exceeded 65c under load. So it is a little hotter.
