Lenovo K8 note, Android 7.1.1, Issue: poor RAM management

2017-08-26, 9:58 AM

Hi,

I bought 4GB version in recent flash sale expecting better performance. But coming to the live RAM management was very poor, even if you have running few apps also it's reloading while switching back.

Please give an update for decent performance.

Hi All,

Looks like 1.4 - 1.5 is average for the phone after reboot. Closing running apps from recent should release the RAM when it starts getting higher. You can always try 3rd party app cleaner but none that we can recommend 100%.

Re: Lenovo K8 note, Android 7.1.1, Issue: poor RAM management

Well, I think RAM management can be improved. Yes, K8 Note uses up about 1.5 Gb+ of Ram (and leaves about 2 GB free) on first booting but this can be optimized for sure. My Lenovo K5 Note 3GB variant gave me 1.5GB+ free Ram on first booting. So, where's the improvement?

I would like you to take a look at Motorolla devices. Moto devices are good at Ram management. Please adopt something from the company you just bought.

Lenovo has always done poor work when it comes to software. Initially they had the Vibe UI (complete mess) and now stock android with poor software performance. This can be improved through OTAs. I have observed Xiaomi doing this through software updates.

Lenovo keeps ignoring complaints by pointing out that these errors are usual and natural. The truth is that these things can be improved through software updates. Lenovo has a poor reputation and K8 Note is a hope. Please work on making it better.

Hello All,

Can you recommend any app from App store for cache cleaner in K8 Note. I tried with App Cahche Cleaner but phone started misbehaving after that. Please suggest.

Thanks,

Ram Mittal

Re: Unable to optimize RAM

Android by default does the RAM management & kills open apps only when there is not sufficient free RAM available for you to open another app. The whole purpose of RAM is not to remain free but be occupied so that the apps once opened remain open. Keeping apps always open makes the use fluid and experience rich because the same app when used next, quickly comes to the fore (like on iPhone) without the need for it to be loaded again in the memory which otherwise spoils the fluid experience.

Naresham, I request you to download and install at least 10-15 apps (including some heavy ones like Asphalt 8).

Now, open all of them, put them to the background and reopen them and tell me how many of them actually stayed in the memory and how many of them was loaded again.

Now, do the same with Redmi Note 4 if you have one available and compare the results.
Both uses android and according to your argument, Ram management should be the same on both devices.

Btw, you will find that K8 Note reloads many applications while Redmi Note 4 keeps them in memory and does not reload.

Andoid manages Ram own its own but the device manufacturers and the Rom efficiency also plays an important role in it. You could always watch few Redmi Note 4 vs K8 Note videos on Youtube instead of actually performing the above stuff.

Thank You :)

Re: Unable to optimize RAM

I never said RAM management is the same on Redmi Note 4 and Lenovo K8 Note.

I am a technical person & a very heavy user,  and my Android is allways customised to the max effect.

I said Android is smart enough to manage RAM in the right manner and I am very satisfied with Lenovo's K8 Note as the Android is stock and not customised like the MIUI in Redmi Note 4 or the Android on earlier Lenovo phones. MIUI prefers killing apps to ensure much more than needed RAM stays free which is not the case with Stock Android and hence the experience in Stock Android is always fluid and much better than MIUI especially for heavy users. Light basic users will never see the difference. From my 4 GB RAM only 400 mb remains free and I have installed all that I need and I ensure most apps remain open for fluid response - and technically the phone will only lag if there are still more apps to remain open and that much free  RAM is not available.

As I said my phone is heavily customised and has more than 55 applications open (including multiple service apps) and my experience has been superb on K8 Note as compared to my Redmi Note 3 and Note 4.

Xiaomi has also realized the advantage of Stock Android and so they will soon be following suit to Lenovo by providing Stock Android in new phones - which also means quicker updates for users.

Since the September update, the phone has started lagging a bit and the Ram consumption is about 98% when used continously for 2 hours or so. Please do something about this.

I only had 5 apps open at the time and none of them were heavy apps. I can actually feel the lag. I downloded external app to check the ram and it still shows about 90% consumed.

I use the 4GB variang and it shows me 200 mb free when used for a long time.
