Thanks for the reply Rich. I do appreciate you keeping communication going, but in fairness you've been giving these "No Update" updates since December last year. It doesn't take 6 months to triage an issue like this and I'm pretty sure a few of these community members have already determined the cause for you (e.g. battery optimisation issue, etc...).

 

I only just bought this phone, and love it, but unfortunately this is a deal breaker for me as I'm sure it is for many others that want to get notified when they receive their messages, or any other notifications, or in my case notifications from my home security system.

 

Looking back on the history of this thread it's obvious by the delay in resolving this is because it hasn't been prioritised by your dev team, which I find hard to understand as the impact radius of this issue must be significant. Also the fact that a phone that can't notify it's user is essentially unfit for purpose - both reasons of which would surely qualify this as a Sev1 issue. No?

 

With all this in mind, would you mind giving us a real update along the lines of "when" you think your dev team will in fact look into this. That would be much more helpful as it would allow us to plan on our side, instead of just stringing us along.

I'm actually a software engineer, so I got my hands dirty and opened Android's logcat debugger to see if there was anything interesting happening.

 

I was able to narrow down the issue to an unsuccessful broadcast intent emitted by com.google.android.c2dm.intent.RECEIVE (that's a component of Google Play Services in charge of receiving system notifications and forwarding them on to the appropriate app). These broadcasts are systematically CANCELLED when the app isn't alreayd opened in the background, instead they should wake up the appropriate app. This is quite clearly a system-level bug.

 

Support team, please forward the following logs to the engineers. It should help them narrow down the issue.

@Agent_Rich , this is on a plate for you now. Still can't believe you haven't resolved this and users have been left without notifications for over 6 months. This is a Sev1 issue for a phone and should be prioritised.

It has now been two weeks since I have this smartphone, and a week and a half since I have not received a notification correctly. To use my alarm clock, I have to leave the screen on on the alarm clock application otherwise it does not ring. At some point even receiving SMS or calls no longer works, I have to restart the phone and I get all my notifications after restarting.

 

it is beginning to be painful to wait for a correction of this magnitude. two weeks of waiting for me, several months for the others. we don't even have a status report on this issue, just "we're working on it" it's not very professional. can we hope for real progress on the problem or should we proceed differently to make ourselves heard?

This is also happening on the Legion Duel 2. Any app the relies on notifications has to be open for it to work. Any updates would be appreciated?!
