Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

Im using the lenovo G510 laptop.

I am very confusing on how to stop the fuction key, eg. pressing F1 in stead of Fn+F1

cuz it is so annoy on using some programs.

Moreover, i know that there are 2 display cards inside my laptop, one is intel 4600 and the other one is AMD 8600/8700M. Can I use AMD display card for default in stead of intel 4600 display card?

I've try BIOS system and Fn + Num Lock Key but both arent work.

Thanks for giving advices.

(G510) Fn key and display card problems....

Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

Hi Chan-ct

  Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try Booting inside BIOS

To do that Press the power to turn ON the computer then right away alternately start hitting Fn+F2 and F2(only)

This will get you to the BIOS setup Page

Now go to the Configuration TAB and look for an option that says hotkey. You will need to toggle the option there.

either to enabled or disabled.

Once you were able to toggle it

Press F10 to save and Exit of the page. That should switch your FN actions.

To your Graphics Question the answer is no...

Windows will run on the Built in Graphics which is the Intel and will render Games and application with High Graphics requirement with the ATI Radeon.

This Feature will Auto switch high graphics application and games to run with the ATI Radeon

But the Radeon cannot be forced to run Windows on it.

Hope this helps

Cheers!

Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

hi

Im very sorry to hear that but it seems that the BIOS for this system is does not allow key remapping.

Your concern is somehow similar to this thread

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Function-Lock-Key-ideapad-z400/td-p/1125203/highlight/true

They were able to partially remapp and reverse some of the functione keys

See this article and download for the app.

Remap Keys in windows

Hope this helps

Cheers!

Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

Hello

Im considering to buy a lenovo g510. I'll use for work with linux os. My question is if is possible disable radeon graphics in bios and use only intel graphics. Catalyst driver for linux is horrible.

Thanks

Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

Same problem here, such annoying using of Fn keys. I've noticed there has been a BIOS update for other products with same unpleasant feature, any chance for getting a BIOS update fixing this for G510 laptop as well? Or should I return the laptop while I still can?

Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

This Fn thing is very, very annoying... I had to many troubles with the keyboard, i likethe laptop but the keyboard sucks.

1) The Home, End, pgUp and PgDn, are too far from the arrows, as a programmer i need them very often

2) I don't know when my fingers are on the arrows, even if you put those little thingslike from J and F, i got use to move from Ctrl to left arrow and notice that i am on the arrowbecause of the gap.

3) If i press at the very right end at the space bar it isn't pressing(i got to used to press there), this is very annoying when you want to write fast.(And in this reply i intentionally let those mistake of not pressing receiving to well the signal of keyPress)

4) And now the Fn thing, you say that some versions can't toggle it, is very annoying if you are playing video games(Fable the lost chapter is a very good example), and the software you gave me is not very good for example for F4 and F5 doesn't recognize them(tried from F1 to F5 probably F7 with flight mode won't recognize either) I don't want to let some changed and some not.

Is good that you wanted to be different than others, but this is NOT GOOD.

At least one out of four, the last one, you can change that, please make an bios update or something, for the other 3 i will try to get used.

My laptop model is G510.

I really like the laptop, is good but the keyboard sucks in a way, probably other people noticed too.

Thank you for your time.

Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

I had a problem with G510 graphic driver (intel HD and R7 M265) but i found a solution...

After install a driver from lenovo page http://support.lenovo.com/pl_PL/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS036300 we get error with one of two driver. But it's not important. Next, download and install http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+7+-+32#amd-catalyst-packages , and next step is install from Windows Update "Intel Corporation - Graphic Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphic Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphic Adapter WDDM 1.3 - Intel(R) HD Graphic 4600)."
After this, every error with graphic gone!

Windows 7 x64  solution.

Re: (G510) Fn key and display card problems....

Is there a bootable CD/DVD version for this bios update? I don't run Windows 8 and find it a bit strange that for a bios update I need a specific OS. (FYI, after I bought my G510 I wiped the disk clean and installed Linux right away). Many thanks for the help.
