Re: Lenovo G580 rtc battery cmos

You are seeing either the Power On Password or the HDD Password entry, neither of which can be cleared manually. The service manual states the main board will need to be replaced to reset the password.

I do not work for Lenovo, I only provide suggestions based on my personal willingness to help others. All advice and comments are based on my experience, and do not reflect Lenovo policy, terms or conditions.

Re: Lenovo G580 rtc battery cmos

Welcome to the Lenovo Community shandorrado !

The removal of the CMOS battery or jumper on the motherboard to clear BIOS passwords is just for desktop computers.  Laptops do not have this feature due to the ease in which they can be stolen.  Additionally this protection scheme of not allowing BIOS password clearing on a laptop is pretty much universal with laptop manufacturers like Lenovo, Dell, HP, Gateway, ASUS, etc.

If one of your BIOS passwords is set and you do not remember the password then your only option is to replace the motherboard.

Further discussion regarding password removal is restricted by forum rules, sorry !
