m5400 problems

2014-01-21, 16:38 PM

hello guys,i am using a lenovo m5400 notebook and i have 2 issues with it.maybe you can help me

1.the touchpad goes into scroll mode sometimes(i dunno what exacly determines it,cause i'm using only one fiinger) and i don't know how to switch it back.the only option that i have is to use a regular mouse

2.this thing happens only  under the next scenario:first-i put my laptop to sleep.then if i try to put it to sleep again or to shut it down, the display shows the shutting down image, then the screen goes black, but the power button remains green and you can hear the laptop working...i let it like this for hours and it still has not shut down, and the only option i have is to hold the power button for few seconds.

i repeat, this only happens if i first put in to sleep

i am using Windows 7,with all the updates-to-date

Hey AlexSerban,

      Welcome to the forums,

Regarding your issues,

1. I suggest you reinstall your Touchpad drivers

 Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Win7 32-bit/Win7 64-bit, Win8 64-bit - Lenovo B5400, Lenovo M5400

2. The shutting down after sleep I would suggest if you could take a screen shot of your system logs example posted below

This issue happens on Linux, too. Either both Windows and Linux drivers are buggy or the touchpad itself got a hardware/firmware issue. Unless the first one is true, updating the touchpad's driver will not solve this.

There isn't too much to do. As a workaround I found that unloading and then reloading the psmouse kernel module helps for a while, until the issue reappears. Unfortunately I don't know how to restart the mouse driver in Windows.

Another thing to do is to not buy a Lenovo laptop next time. It's harsh, but at least I learned my lesson.

I got the same issue. I think it's a driver problem, because the touchpad works sometimes pretty well. But most of the time it's literally a fight against your workstation. A nightmare when you're trying to work.

I have same problem, sometimes touchpad freeze and have to reboot notebook to fix this.

The notebook is new, recently bought. And really don't like what is happen with this touchpad.

I use like OS Windows 8.1 x64 !

If the problem persist, really think I'll send back or to warranty.

First time when i buy a notebook, and i hear Lenovo is very reliable,I hope he will not dissapoint me.
