Re: A540 Partition HDD will not shrink past 450gb

Just got an A540, trying to partition the HDD into C:  100gb D:  rest (about 88gb) but it will not let me shrink C: to less than 450gb.  I think there is an unmovable file.  Never had this problem before with PCs.  Anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it.

Thanks

Ian

Unmovable files prevent Windows disk management from doing what you want, as Windows is active.

Your solution is to use Partition Wizard's standalone boot CD instead, which you can download and burn for free.  Booting standalone allows you to do anything you want to C, including moving these "unmovable" files.  You will be able to resize any of your partitions to whatever you want.

You might also search the Windows forums.

The problem seems to be Lenovo and their file / backup possibly.

Bit like Windows 8 / Vista / ME where the manufacturers reckon they know better than you do how you should work.

Interested if anyone else with an A540 has the problem

PS  the dimensions for the A540 and A740 on all the Lenovo web sites are for the cardboard packing box and not the computer.  They must have some strange people running the place.
