Re: IDEACentre AIO 700 - HDMI in to use as monitor for older PC
I have just bought an AIO 700, and was planning to use it dually as a monitor for my old PC (HP Pavilion running Vista Home Premium, with HDMI from NVIDIA GEFORCE GT120) for a period, while I move apps across from old to new PC over several weeks.
I got over the first hurdle (Quick Setup Guide mislabels HDMI in and HDMI out the wrong way round!!!)
I got over the second hurdle (buy HDMI 1.4-compatible cable)
I am stuck at the third hurdle. I cannot get the monitor capability to work.
In the following, description, the AIO700 is powered up but not booted up.
When I hot swap the HDMI output from my HP monitor to the AIO700 and press the side button to switch to monitor, I get a blank screen (though I do not get the little countdown clock saying no videio input). .
When I shutdown my HP then power it up with the HDMI plugged into the AIO700, I see the HP BIOS screen, and it boots as far as the Copyright Microsoft with the scrolling green bars, then screen goes black and stays black (even if I fiddle with side button). When I hear that Windows has booted, I hot swap HDMI cable back to the HP monitor, and everything is OK - screen display is normal. I SEE IN DEVICE MANAGER THAN A NEW ENTRY FOR GENERIC PNP MONITOR has been created, so my Vista system has tried to recognise the AIO700 as a monitor, but presumably hasn't succeeded in setting it up properly.
I am starting to think I need a driver for the AIO700 monitor in my Vista system, which is disappointing. Can anyone advise if this is a correct diagnosis, suggest where I can get one, or suggest alternative diagnoses/courses of action? I do not have room on my desk for 2 23-inch monitors, so it's very important to me to get this working.
I have tried setting various diofferent resolutions in my NVIDIA control panel before shutting down or hot swapping, but I now think that's not relevant, as the AIO700 should be detected as a new monitor and appropriate resolution set.
NB when I plug the HDMI output of a TV set-top box into the AIO700, the TV appears to display fine.
All suggestions gratefully received.....
