A540 Sleep Issues

2020-08-05, 3:41 AM

Up until recently, my 4-month-old A540 (i5 9400T) has been working fine. Now it will not properly go to sleep. The fan stays running for a few minutes then it pulses. It almost sounds like its trying to shut down but then it goes back to full power (like winding down and up) repeatedly.

I called tech  support, I use that loosely as they were ZERO help. I reset it and it still has that issue. I defaulted settings in BIOS, no work.

I've got a Y740, Y540, T730, M720 and A340 and none have this issue. When they go to sleep, they go to sleep. No fans, screen, nothing!

Thoughts?

Hi,

Welcome to the Lenovo forum community!

The issue here is most likely, a driver windows updated, my suggestion is, do a factory reset, and then disable windows ability to update drivers.

This should solve the issue.

It doesn't as I factory reset the machine and it still happens. I just learned what the issue is.

Piece of s##t Microsoft forced Modern Standby on this machine causing a force S0 state and disabling S3.

For some reason all my other Lenovo PCs were immune to this crap except for my A540. Waiting to hear on a solution for disabling Modern Standby ...

Hi, so if the issue is modern standby, the following should help you

Kindly try the following steps below to disable the Modern Standby:
1. On the search bar, type "Regidtry Editor" and click on it.
2. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
3. Double Click on "CsEnabled" and change the Value data to 0
4. On the search bar, type "Command Prompt"
5. Type "powercfg /a", then hit Enter and provide the result.

Problem is Windows 10 Build 2004 has disabled those registry edit "tweaks." The only current solution is to downgrade to an earlier build.

I requested and downloaded the recovery software to create a USB key but the recovery software you now send is the newest build, 2004, and not the original build included with my PC, 1909.

I need 1909 or earlier, not that crap 2004. How can I get that YET not have to do a generic Win10 .iso reinstall with no included Lenovo preinstalled software?

The only way to get the earlier version, is to do a generic install.
