Ideacentre Flex 20: Wifi-Module Upgrade

2021-02-12, 16:20 PM

Hi,

I updated an IdeaCentre to Windows 10 and now WiFi is not running stable.

As I could research, it is due to the old Broadcom chipset (BCM43142A0).

All drivers I tried out have same results.

Therefore I got a new mini PCIe module and antennas (Intel 8260HMW). Everything fits, but it is not recognized.

As I learned, there is a whitelist in the BIOS - is that correct?

Which WiFi cards are recognized?
Alternatively, is there a BIOS update without a whitelist?

Hope to get useful answers and some hints.

Best regards,

Lorenz

Hello @LIsbeih,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for sharing your experience with upgrading your machine.

WLAN cards do have whitelists. Here's a list of compatible WLAN cards for your machine: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/flex-series/flex-20-all-in-one-ideacentre/f0a9/parts/display/compatible

Since these are the only cards listed as compatible a BIOS update may not fix any issues.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jack_Lenovo1

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your support.

I noticed in compatibility list that RTL8821AE should work, I change WiFi module again.

This module is recognized by system and Windows 10. But I still have same problems with WiFi... It is not running stable.

Very high latency and time outs. Also it disconnects from Access Point very often.

After reconnecting latency starts normal and after some seconds high latency comes again.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Lorenz

At least in Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop, it appears that the cards need to also have Lenovo part numbers physically on them for them to be recognized.
