Lenovo All-In-One C440: CPU Upgrade

2014-07-03, 18:35 PM

Could anyone tell me if is possible to upgrade the CPU on a Lenovo All-In-One C440? I haven't had a chance to open the chassis yet, so I am trying to figure out 1) that  the CPU is not soldered on the motherboard 2) in case it is not, where can I find what CPU I could upgrade to?

This computer currently has a Pentium G2030 CPU on an Intel LGA 1155 socket.

hi celsoglima,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Yes the Processor FCLGA is a replaceable Interface.

Refer to page 48 - 50 of you System's Maintenance Manual

About the compatible CPUs

You will need to do a cross check on this

You system supports Chipset H61 which is only compatible to this CPU list

http://ark.intel.com/products/52806/Intel-BD82H61-PCH#@compatibility

And you systemboard will only accept CPU from this list ( page 66 of the Maintenance Manual)

So pick from the system board compatible and make sure it is present in the link from intel

Hope this helps

Cheers!

I had already checked  that compatibility list from Intel. However, I was told in the past not to just go by that list on Intel's Ark web site. The information I was given years ago was that the motherboard itself also determines the processors that can be used. In other words, although I have to select a processor that is compatible with the chipset H61, the motherboard might not work with the latest and/or most powerfull processor in the list compatible with the chipset.

I have been going by that rule for years now. In fact all motherboard manufacturers have lists of compatible CPUs on their site. If that rule is not true, please let me know. I would love to just be able to go by the information that Intel provides.

hi celsoglima,

Im really sorry to hear that but,

as I have said, the List from intel needs to be filtered out via the list from the Maintenance Manual Compatible CPUs. This means that the rule you said you've been following is correct.

Hi there,

I also have a Lenovo All-In-One C440.

Has anyone successfully replaced their G2020 dual core with something significantly better?

Has anyone tried upgrading the ram BEYOND 8GB? (I have 8gb and would like 16gb or 32Gb)

regards

Stephen

Did you upgrade your CPU?

Which one did you choose?

I recently upgraded the CPU of an C440 with no dedicated graphics.

Before an Intel Core i3-3220 was installed. I upgraded to an Intel Core i3-3225, which has roughly the same specifications except integrated graphics, which is Intel HD graphics 4000 instead of Intel HD graphics 2500. The i3-3225 is not listed in the hardware manual but still working.

I also upgraded the rear board. Before it had no HDMI output, now it has a working connector.
