System completely freezes up - no mouse - no keyboard - only option is hard reboot - help

My system completely freezes up with no warning. It makes no difference what I am doing at the time. It has happened whilst using Word, Excel, Our Sage Accounts programme, on the internet, using internal documents. It has pretty musch done it whatever I am doing.

 

Can anyone please help as it's driving me crazy

Hi sallyknox, 

Welcome to the Community, delighted to have you here. 

I would recommend that you load the system in safemode with networking and then do a hardware test using Lenovo Solution Center. Make sure you are running the latest version of Lenovo Solution Center. If you get an error for the hardware components or the system freezes during the test, then that would indicate that you need to get the system serviced. If you do not get any errors then try doing a clean boot and isolate the source of the problem by disabling 3rd party software.

Did you perform the hardware diagnostic test? Does the freezing happens on safe mode?

It's a business pc & is used all the time. I cannot run it in safe mode for prolonged periods of time as it is not practical. The fault is intermittent and sometimes happens 3 time sin a day & sometimes doesn't happen for a week. I was hoping for a better solution than running it in safe mode really.

Could you run few tests from this link -

You should try Storage test, memory test, motherboard test, CPU test. Open Command prompt and try sfc /scannow to check if your windows files are corrupted.

The Lenovo Solution Centre will not run in safe mode. I had the PC in safe mode with networking all day yesterday and the Lenovo Solution Centre opens normally but when I click on hardware test (or any of the other tabs) it just sits with a scrolling "loading ........" message. Regarding the tests from the link for the diagnostic solutions - I'm sorry but I couldn't work out what I needed to do once I was on the page - it's not very clear ???
