UEFI on IdeaCentre B520?

2011-09-03, 12:40 PM

Hi @ all,

new problem, ne thread. :)

I have an IdeaCentre B520 and there is no possibility to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI-Mod, because the Bios seems to be modified by Lenovo.

I have a SSD as primary disk and a HDD as secondary disc, both running as one with the RapidDrive-Driver. But a SSD without x64-EFI and GPT-format is not the fastes solution :(

Is there any BIOS-Update or other solution?

Thanks a lot!

Extra-BIOS-info:

AMI Aptio 4.6.4
Version 1.24.1115

Core Version 4.06
Project Version 2.00
Firmware ID 01T0200

DMI BIOS Anbieter   LENOVO
DMI BIOS Version   DUKT31AUS

B520 has Lenovo mainboard with BIOS not EFI. It's not possible to use EFI on standard legacy BIOS motherboard.

The only advantage of GPT format is when you have over 2TB HDD so you will not gain anything from SSD.

btw, maybe you could do some "how to do" with pictures about RapidDrive?

I did a little research and the mainboard has EFI! It's just a setting-thing from Lenovo, to hold this function back. The AMI Aptio 4.6.4 BIOS kann do so much more. There are a lot of hidden functions!

One big improvement of GPT:

"Windows GPT-based disks have multiple, redundant partition tables so that if one is detected as being corrupt, it can self-heal itself from a redundant copy of the table."

and it is new ;)
I like to play around with new stuff. Why not use the best option, just because of factitious BIOS-trimming?

The "how to do" about rapiddrive still exists:
How to Rapiddrive (works with IdeaCentre B520!)

burn2k - could you kindly provide us with a link to where we can find the main-board EFI and other settings that you mention in your 10 September message?  Thank you.
