A2109 - What covers the screen? I assume no gorilla glass?

2013-01-01, 5:15 AM

Hello,

I have 2 A2109's on order.  I was looking at getting an iPad, but saw these on sale at Newegg for 229 and decided I could get one for my wife and one for myself for the same price as one Apple device.  And the specs look great.  Yes, I am sure someone will remind me about the screen, but I don't think that will bother me. Which brings me to my question:  What covers the screen?  Anything special or just glass?  I wouldn't expect exotic glass at that price but I was wondering if there is anything known about what covers it?  Thanks.

Thanks for the pdf, seems to imply these tablets can support 3GB of Ram.

I didn't see that.  What I saw under the A2109 section was:

Memory  1GB std / 1GB max / 1333MHz DDR3L, mobile memory

So although the Tegra 3 CPU supports I believe 2 GB of memory, Lenovo does not support more than 1GB on any models currently. So I didn't see the reference to 3 GB.  Where did you see that?

I will say I saw a nice looking case coming for the A2107, much better than the boring A2109 case that also apparently isn't available yet.

We all see things differently, you did see?

       1GB std / 1GB max7 / 1333MHz DDR3L, mobile memory Memory

see the word max7? that means go down and find number 7

7.

Maximum memory capacity may
require the replacement of standard
component with largest supported
component available. On systems, even
though it is possible to physically install
4GB of memory, the actual amount
of memory addressable by a 32-bit
operating system will be limited to 3GB.
This limitation does not exist with 64-bit
operating systems.

Haha yes that footnote refers to 32bit OS's ability to address 3GB of ram, but the important part is where it says "1 GB Max"

Just depends on how one reads something, we are all different, to me if the tablet can only handle 1GB, no need for the footnote.

why make a footnote at all? footnotes are made for a reason, you think all these footnotes were written cause the author that wrote this paper was bored?

How in the world did we go from Glass quality to Ram?
Back to the original topic, I do hope everyone knows that "glass" can have many hardnesses depending on manufacture processes and even regular "glass" will be much better than any poly substance.

So since these a2109 displays are "glass" I am very happy with them and have not seen any scratches on mine yet. Not even really tiny ones, really.

I agree with anika.

But I looked at the pdf and seen "NO WHERE" where it said it was just glass!

I know I saw somewhere where it  said Gorilla Glass.

But that is beesides the point, If I see it again I'll be sure to post it back here.
