Same problem here... Really annoying!

Mine is new.. Has a connection problem every few seconds/minutes.

Restarting my router @ home does not help... In any case, I bought this for travel as I have to travel every week. So restarting other peoples routers is not an option.

My old tablet (which I dropped in a bath) which was a Samsung, worked flawlessly.. Same hotels, same coffee bars.. Talking to others, nobody else has network problems (none use Lenovo) in these places.

(I also used a WiFi analyzer to monitor my home WiFi.. No problems detected).

If its not fixed.. Guess I have no choice but to fight for a refund & buy something that works..

Looking at the dates on this topic does not inspire me with confidence that it is going to get fixed anytime soon..

Really not very happy.

Lenovo havent been motivated to fix it during all this time, even with the deluge of complaints, and now that this tablet has been listed as 'end of life' there is zero chance of them doing the decent thing at this point, as much as I hate to say it.

I have the exact problem you describe, after an update.

No reply from Lenovo...

Do you have a workaround ?

I've given up. Contacted the shop where I bought and am getting a full refund! I'll never buy Lenovo stuff again.

To be fair Lenovo's top tier laptops are fantastic, but this particular tablet was junk.

SOLUTION

I know this is an old thread but I came back here to see if Lenovo had finally published a 'proper' fix. As they obviously haven't here's my workaround, in case anyone still requires it.

This seems to be a common problem on a variety of Android devices, particularly those using 'outdated' firmware or firmware other than the factory installed version. The problem, in my opinion, is not with the router, the strength of the WiFi signal or a variety of other 'red herrings'. The problem seems to be with the negotiation and receipt of a valid IPv4 address via DHCP probably due to faulty Android code.

The workaround is simply to use a static IP address and this is how you do it . . .

A. First let's decide on an IP address to use (expert solution with access to router):

  1. Identify the DHCP IP address range being used by your router, e.g. 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254.
  2. Remove some addresses from the range so you have a few 'spare', e.g. new range becomes 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.199.
  3. Choose an IP address from your 'spares', e.g. 192.168.0.200.
  4. Jump ahead to part C.

B. First let's decide on an IP address to use (non-expert or without access to router):

  1. Log on to your Windows PC and from the Start menu select 'Run', type cmd and press enter. At the command prompt type ipconfig and press enter.
  2. Look for the 'IPv4 Address' that is displayed along with a valid 'Default Gateway'. This is usually found under 'Ethernet adapter network name' or 'Wireless LAN adapter network name'.
  3. Make a note of the 'IPv4 Address' and 'Default Gateway'. Now we're going try to guess an IP address that is probably not being used on your network.
  4. Most routers assign IP addresses starting from the low-end of the range. Look at the last number of the IP address you have noted and if it's low or less than 150 then it's likely you can replace that number with one from the high-end of the range. For example if your IP address is 192.168.0.44 then 192.168.0.200 will probably work fine.

C. Update your tablet or phone to use the static IP address for WLAN:

  1. In WLAN settings, create or modify the WLAN profile for your WiFi network and select 'Show advanced options'.
  2. Make sure your WLAN password is correct using 'Show password'.
  3. In the 'IPv4 settings' option select 'Static'.
  4. In the 'IPv4 address' enter your new IP address, e.g. 192.168.0.200.
  5. In 'Gateway' enter your router address or the address you obtained from 'Default Gateway', e.g. 192.168.0.1.
  6. If you have a 'simple' small network the 'Network prefix length' is likely to be 24 and is the default so no need to change.
  7. In 'DNS 1' enter your router address or the address you obtained from 'Default Gateway', e.g. 192.168.0.1.

That's it! Hope it helps.
