Re: [BUG] Installing OTA fail:TB-X705F_USR_S200095_20190528_Q00332_ROW

Dear all,

after using the latest updated firmware for some days I would like to share with you (and hopefully also the team of Lenovo) my experiences.

1. buggy thing:

As I mentioned already in my last message after some minutes you cannot reposition or deinstall an app by long pressing on the icon and moving it. In the beginning everything works fine but after some minutes pressing long on the icon simply doesnt change status of icon in order to move it around. By switching the tablet off/on everything works again for some time.

2. buggy thing (more severe):

I used to use a 128 GB micro sd card to enlarge the internal memory. Unfortunately I had some strange behavior of apps working from that card since the update. Sometime the tab even completely rebooted or did suddenly not recognize the installed card. I did a lot by changing the card from Samsung EVO to SanDisk Extreme and even set the tablet back to initial manufacturer conditions and reinstalled everything (this was really hard work) but it still did not work stable.

For the time beeing I use now only the internal memory of tablet and use the sd card only as external storage.

Since then it seams to work more stable.

Hope these information will be the start of a list for Miguel to get Lenovo engineers focusing to things that need to be improved.

Whats the experience of the rest ouf the community?

To all of you a happy sunday!

Australian user here ... had the same problems with the 1500mb update, hence my checking out this forum. I finally installed the new update yesterday with no major problems as yet.

No problem with external storage SanDisk 128GB SD card, no problem with original home pages disappearing (they looked the same as before the update except for a few widgets that now disappear every time I reboot ie AccuWeather, Pocket Weather and Google Keep but easy enough to set up, just annoying) and took me a while to work out the new Android 9 things.

One improvement is the ability to use wifi in another room, which was not possible when I first bought the tablet earlier this year but I have noticed that wifi has always seemed very slow (unlike on my other android devices or laptop). So it looks like they fixed something there (which I noticed was a problem with the P10 on other site reviews).

So ... all okay so far. Fingers crossed. BTW, how do you get rid of the Google page to the left of the home page. Don't want it there, but can't work out how to remove it.

I successfully did the update to Android 9 on my P10.

Now the device would sometimes shut itself off when charging.

And sometimes it would turn itself on at night.

This is really strange behavior.

It's like it has a mind of its own.

Also when I press power and volumn up at the same time to try to enter the recovery mode.

There is no menu, just a text that says FFBM mode or something.

Dear Bob3022,

You might have read that I had very similar issues.

Do you have a SD card installed?

I narrowed down to the use of a micro SD card to enlarge my internal memory.

What worked for me (up to now) is to use the SD card as additional memory only.

Even than sometimes for some apps the card wasn't accessible but since then I did not have an unintended shut off again.

After your message today I just for curiosity installed an SD card from a third manufacturer (I already experienced it with Samsung Evo and SanDisk Extreme card) but after a while it shut off itself again. So I really think that's an issue to be fixed by Lenovo.

Hope Miguel from Lenovo is still out there somewhere in space to put it on the TO DO list for the engineer team.

All the best to all P10 users! We gonna get this thing better than ever before!

A few more annoying bugs in this new update.

Any widgets or apps that I put on the homescreens AFTER the update stay there for about 1/2 hour, then disappear.  Ones that I had before the update are fine except that sometimes the apps at the very bottom of each page sometimes move positions on their own.

As mentioned in another post here, I also noticed that the tablet turned itself on and off, but only happened once (that I have noticed).

The better wifi system I mentioned in my last post doesn't seem to be working now, and it is back to only picking up wifi intermittingly through walls. This is not a problem with any of my other devices, so is definately a P10 problem.

Bummer .... hope they will fix these issues with a better update soon.

Just an update on my P10 experience.

To fix my SD card related issues I just put USB function to charge only before unplugging the cable.

I also recommend do a factory reset after the update.

Another problem is related to the developer option.

To get developer option, repeatedly tap build number in about tablet in system setting.

Until you get an extra selection in system setting called developer option.

In developer option menu, to switch it off would toggle off all the option automatically regardless how you set it.

As a result I cannot change setting in the developer option.

Dear Bob0322,

can you please explain more in detail how you fixed the SD card issue. Sounds very interesting. But I dont understand what you mean.

to all:

Concerning a factory reset I can fully agree that I had much less strange issues after doing an factory reset (save your data before you do and be aware that it takes sometime to set everything up again).

Happy day to all!

Android has never been great at using a microSD card as extra internal memorhy.  On the P10 you shouldn't need to in any case.  Using the microSD card as external memory has no issues.

Haven't been able to find any issues with the Developer Mode.  Upgraded 3 P10 and checked Developer mode on all no issues.

The Settings > Navigation Bar Mode > Work Settings doesn't stick.  Goes back to Classic Mode and was the same before the update.  Before the update at least you had an icon to reapply what they called 'Productivity Mode' - now called 'Work Mode', not so in the latest update so you have to go into the Settings to reapply the Work Mode.  Sadly Lenovo are lousy on support and fixes as can be seen by the lack of official support here, and don't fix issues.

When you connect the tablet to a PC through USB, there is an extra option in the notification pulldown menu. It contains various connection modes. Before unplug the USB cable, put it on charge only mode to stop any data communication between the PC and the tablet. Otherwise data on the SD card has a chance of becoming corrupted.
