Camera keeps asking which folder to use.

2021-04-06, 3:19 AM

I have a Lenovo Tab M8 FHD (TB-8705F), and every time I start the camera, it asks to use my external SD card as the folder ("Use This Folder" blue button). I have an SD card that is only installed "for transferring photos and media".
So I have changed the folder for the camera to save back to it's original folder on the device, but it asks me this every time I access the camera. It wants to use the external SD card and I don't want that.

I am on Android 10.
How do I get it to stop asking me. And why is it doing this? Is this a bug or a feature?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello @ tz8500!

Thanks for posting here at the Community Forums!

Just to ask:

  • Does this only happens when accessing the Camera app?
  • How about when using apps that were installed for the first time, are you also getting that message?

Try removing the MicroSD card into your Tab M8 FHD then see if you'll still be asked for the same message.

Also, try using a different MicroSD card into your Tab M8 FHD (should you have one).

You may also format the MicroSD card by following the steps provided in this link.

Make sure to back up or move the files that are in the MicroSD card first before performing the action then test it on the Tab M8 FHD again.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks,

This only happens when accessing the camera, never with anything else.

The SD card works fine, I can listen to music from that card on my tablet. There would be no reason to format it.

I will try to eject it and see if that resolves the issue.

Hi Tz, did ejecting solve the issue at your end as of now? Regards, Diana G Brown

Ejecting the SD card stops the request by the system and the camera works normal. Mounting the card back to the system makes the message appear again. Clearly the camera wants to use the SD card as the folder and that's the only option. I suspect this is a bug.

Thanks for responding @ tz8500!

Apologies for the delayed response as well.

It would be still advisable to have the SD card be formatted so that we'll be able to isolate if it's a concern within the SD card or with the software itself that might require us to do a factory reset.

However, make sure to backup the files that you have first before proceeding with the step so that the data/files can be recovered.

You may also check if there's an update that's available to be downloaded to the machine as well.

Thanks,
