Can't connect to hidden SSID

2017-08-28, 14:51 PM

I just received a Lenovo TB-8504F (8") with Android 7.1.1

I'm trying to connect to my company's hidden SSID, something that worked flawlessly with Nexus/Samsung devices in the past. For some reason, my Lenovo tablet(s) can't connect. After entering the information the network is saved under "Saved Network" but it won't connect. I've tried both a hidden network with static IP configuration and one with Dynamic. Both are encrypted with WPA/WPA2 PSK.

Do anyone have a workaround? I can't broadcast (even temporary) the SSID. Any changes on the AP's are out of the scope.

Appriciate any help! Worst case senario we have to send back the tablets and buy some other brand.

EDIT: Looks like this tablet having some trouble to connect to a hidden SSID. I think the only solution is to root the device. But there are no custom ROMS available what I can see.

5GHz is not supported by the looks of it. But my SSID's run on dual band so it is unrelated.

Did you ever find a resolution to this issue?  I am experiencing the same issue with a Lenovo Tab4 8

Hi guys,

Are your tablets software is on the latest version?

I tried to connect a hidden SSID on my TAB4 10 PLUS, it working as expected:

(router TP-LINK Archer C1200)

After setting up the hidden wifi network, I was able to connect to it:

Regards.

I am on the latest update.  I just updated the software -- same issue.

If I enter the details of the Hidden SSID it simply never shows up in the list.  I can repeat the exact same process on other tablets and phones and the SSID works.  So, the issue is narrowed down to this tablet.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Did anyone find a solution?
We have a simular problem on a TAB3
We can connect to a visible 5 GHz SSID (but it is remembered as 2,4 GHz)

Once we hide the SSID, the connection is lost and cannot be found
We are forced to use the 2.4 GHz frequency
We are not able to force the tablet to use only 5 GHz frequency, no option in the Lenovo WiFi settings

Had a similar issue with a Smart Tab M10, could only connect a SSID that was visible. The fix for me was when you are manually setting up your wifi connection, you need to expand the advaced settings. In the advanced settings, you have to change to "yes" under "hidden network". Connects everytime now. It also looks like this step can only be done during the initail setup, and not on an existing wifi profile.

Hello, I bought a Lenovo M10 FHD plus tab during the week-end.  It was impossible for me to configure my hidden SSID on the tab. In fact when you add your network manually you have to tell the tab it's an hidden SSID into Advanced Option.

Then, it works !

I have 2 lenovo tablets and have tried to connect both of then to a hidden SSID with no success. Neither of the tablets have the "hidden network" option in the advance settings when adding network manually. I have successfully added three other brand tablets and two phones. I have seen many posts where someone says just check the hidden network option in the advanced settings when initially setting up connection, but that option is simply not there. I have Proxy and IP Settings and that is it.

You have to delete the network from the known networks, and then re-add it. When you re-add it, during the setup, open the advanced options. You'll now have one to add a hidden SSID.

The fact that this advanced menu option for hidden SSID does not exist in the menu options for previously known networks is beyond infuriating. If thus was done on purpose, the engineer who designed this should be beaten.
