Got the new A1, I have to say what a great tablet!

2012-03-10, 16:02 PM
I just received one. Built 2/20/12. Booted right up. Installed a bunch of aps for my son. Great wifi signal, bright screen, gps works good. I upgraded the software to the latest. Android market aps uploaded fast.

Netflix looks great too. What's not to love? I am impressed! Has Lenovo finally got the bugs worked out? I have not found a flaw yet. No rooting required as well.

I was quite nervous buying one after reading about all the issues here on the forum.

Much better than the Coby products. I have to say, it's as smooth operating as the Blackberry playbook with tons of great aps available.

Almost everyone here is only here because they have some type of issue with their device, so you're usually only going to see help requests and bug reports on these forums. I go on here to see what's new and leave paranoid about my device :)

From what I've read, it seems the A1 is a pretty solid tablet and a good choice. Glad you're happy with your product.

Even with the WiFi issues that my A1 has, I must agree that it is a phenomenal value for the money. I love having an "always on" computer to check my email and browse the web.

I just wish Lenovo was more responsive to the frustrations and issues that their customers experience. I've never before seen a company that doesn't have their engineers actively on their own hosted forums so that their customers get real and timely answers to issues. Forcing us to call in to speak with someone who doesn't know anything about the device is a huge mistake.

This time I bought from Lenovo because of the name and price. Next time I will know better and save up some more money and buy Samsung for the support and maturity of the product. Not that I don't like my A1, I do. But it could be so much better with proper support.

I am also very happy with my A1 tablet as well. It does everything I want it to do, albeit in a less "slick" fashion than my iPad. The jerky touchscreen and the wi-fi that keeps turning off are my only issues. (That plus the annoying "Cell standby" process that eats up most of my battery.) But for the money I paid (same price as a basic iPod Touch), you can't beat it. I did not trust buying a Coby or one of the unknown Chinese tablets.

Put your A1 into Airplane mode (permanently) and then turn on wifi after setting airplane mode. This will stop the running of cellphone code process in android (for which there is no hardware).

After running through three other tablets (two Coby and one Velocity Micro) and multiple replacements for the Coby tablets, I decided to buy the Lenovo, even though is was more expensive that the others. I have never regretted the decision. I have over 160 apps on the tablet, and it still runs like a dream. I use GO Launcher, GO Locker and K-9 Mail. Delighted with all three. I have the Power Widget on my home page, and it lets me turn WiFi on with ease.

This is the best sub $200 tablet on the market today. It easily runs with the big boys. Only wish that it ran at least Honeycomb. If they upgraded me to that I would be as happy as a pig in poop! Don't really need ICS.

Many opinions here. I believe that if I turn on Airplane Mode, I get longer battery usage. It turns off any phone-related items, although there is a school of thought that all it is recording is idle time. Nevertheless, I think it saves battery. Each fool to his own universe.

I don't understand why I have both Cell standby & Tablet idle showing up in battery usage:

C/net sorta likes the A1:

I believe that the Gingerbread OS, which was developed for phones, has the phone code and usage detection.  You should put your A1 into Airplane mode and then activate WIFI independantly, leaving Airplane mode on... always.  Eventually the battery usage will stop displaying Cell Standby as that code will be used 0% as long as Airplane mode is kept on.
