aross6,

Thanks - just been busy today and hadn't gotten back to post yet.  The team is working on the release - this is confirmed that it will be a clean / basic version of android 4.x  (ICS).

This will not include the Lenovo customizations or pre-installed apps that shipped with the 3.1 system, and will be made available for manual download from our website rather than offered as a normal upgrade due to the limitations I noted.

The current plan is for a single WW English image - not region specific since it will not include customizations, and the target availability is still mid June.

I'll try to check in every couple weeks and will update if things change.

Best regards,

Mark

All,

Things appear to still be moving forward toward the planned mid-June availability of ICS as a downloadable release for K1 (not pushed as OTA).   The development team noted that the current release would be for WIFI models and that if we also needed to provision for 3G / WWAN models that it could add a bit of time to the schedule.

I'd like to take a quick poll here... is support for 3G a big deal for this group?  How many have / use WWAN?

Thanks

Mark

Only Wifi here.

(Isn't this the case for all North American K1s?)

Mark,

I am using a K1 with 3G. At least in the biggest German android forum, most K1 owners have the K1 with 3G and are waiting for an ICS update. I think it would be very disappointing if those who need 3G capabilities could not upgrade to Android 4.

I know that Lenovo is currently developing a ICS firmware for the Medion Lifetab P9516. This basically is a rebranded K1 with 3G.

If you decide not to release an ICS update for K1 with 3G: Would you please ask the Lenovo developers, if they could at least release the Android 4 update for the Lifetab P9516 as an nvflash package?

I am a US customer and have only wifi.  Since the update is optional, not OTA, why not two releases?

Wifi only here (though I'm more frustrated about the USB host than ICS).

Mark, soudry has a great point. ICS with 3G is already being tested on your rebranded K1s in Europe, so including 3G support should not delay in making ICS available.

If there are two different dev teams working on ICS for the same hardware, perhaps they need to talk to each other...
