@Redddog
Have you even read one page of the thread? Stop saying that Lenovo advertise it as an HC tablet and that they owe us nothing, because it's untrue. The tablet was shipped as ICS upgradable in may so they do need to deliver ICS. And don't you know how business works? No one here is crying, we're simply asking for what was promised. Re: Ice Cream Sandwich for Ideapad K1

All,

Apologies for the delay - I know everyone is frustrated.

At the time of my last message, I'd seen the update package and knew the instructions needed some work and that we'd need a fair number of well worded disclaimers to cover the way that this installs and to ensure that our customers understood what they were getting and were sure they wanted to apply the ICS image vs the original Honeycomb.

1) This update wipes everything, and is installed via a USB connection to a Windows PC. (Win 7 really recommended)

2) All apps and Lenovo customizations are gone

3) The new image is very basic - it is "vanilla" Android 4 (4.03 I believe)

I thought we could get all this sorted and on the web in about a week and that was the guidance I gave...

Since then, we've installed the image and while the instructions work, the image as it exists today is missing some things that I think most of our mainstream users would expect.  For example, the Google Play store.   While many of you are members of the developer community and will be able to work with the release as is, I think there are a number of mainstream users who will expect a bit more polish.

Inclusion of Play, aparantly requires region specific images.  These are typically provided via OTA and are keyed to the original image.  Since we currently have a single ICS image and are not planning to deliver via OTA, this is a complication.

We've held putting it on the web while we explore this with the development team.

Best regards,

Mark

As one of those main stream users.  I agree.  The Play Store is very crucial.

Thank you Mark.

Mark, dont get me wrong, but you have to detail release dates.

I cant be bothered everytime that I want to know when Im getting the release, to be checking here.

There are several members in the same situation.

Please oblige and tell us WHEN are we getting this update?

Thanks for all the work you and the Development team are surely doing. Love you all.

Thank you for that reply Mark. Where can I obtain the "vanilla" Android ICS update? I am one of those users who doesn't care if Google Play is available or not, considering there are many alternative marketplaces.

I guess we can always access Play from the web, right?

Mark,

I would also like to get the vanilla ICS image, w/o the google play.  As long as the hardware/software is working (camera, DRM, HD playback, Wifi/3G, ETC)

Will there be any updates pushed through OTA in the future, or is this update to ICS the last, and final update for the K1?

Thanks again Mark.

No OTA will come after ICS update . This is more or less where the K1 meets the end. Lenovo deemed the K1 as the "red headed stepchild" and trying to hide it in the basement.
Sorry to anyone offended by the "red headed stepchild" remark.
