Re: Ice Cream Sandwich for Ideapad K1

Well said. Android isn't an OS for the meek. If You simply want to turn it on and go, by IPad. This is a customizable OS, akin to Linux, and all open source(using that term loosely). Let's wait and see what comes. I still agree that weekly updates, all things considered at this point, would be a very good gesture. Just sayin...

I think its funny that the meridian tablets supposedly have the same hardware. Does anyone know if the meridian tablets are OTA update? And if they are, why isn't ics OTA for our tablet? Love how the replacement tablets aren't as good as the k1. Too funny. Lenovo, you make me LOL and not want to support your company ever again. Not because the ics update but because of the bull**bleep** you guys do.

you guys (and i hate to generalize) are expecting enterprise-level support on a forum that explicitly specifies that its sole purpose is for users to help each other. in fact, i'm pretty sure an admin posted just that somewhere in the middle of this thread.

this was completely mishandled from the get-go (assuming that it was a serious endeavour to begin with). if lenovo were truly serious about this, they would have put up an official page on the site before any promises were made, and before any "development" began, and they would have communicated through official channels. instead, again, you're on a forum that's sole purpose is for users to help each other out.

expect the worst and you'll (eventually, hopefully) be pleasantly surprised. and if that's not good enough, buy a fruit, or put in some effort and learn how the xda stuff works. it may be buggy, but that's part of the open source adventure :D

...bet this post reaches 100 pages before anything is released! :smileylol:

I got ICS...

On my new VZW Samsung Galaxy S3. Still have unlimited data to boot! I must be one of the very few owners who are relatively satisfied with Honeycomb on their K1. Works for how I use it. Now that I have my ICS fix (at least on my phone), I'll patiently wait for it on the tablet.

I also enjoy my K1 with HC but I know with ICS it will be better.  GPS is very slow to work and wireless could be better.  I know these problems will be fixed in ICS.

I have a razr maxx phone that had these problems and Motorola just upgraded the phone to ICS.  Now these problems are fixed.

Mark,  can you give us an update this week?

My crystal ball tells me we will have ICS before we reach 80 pages.

Now that ICS is imminent, is there going back to HC 3.2.1 from ICS if  I don't like it or if is too buggy?

Yes your right, the origional intent of this forum is for users to help each other, HOWEVER, I believe the stakes were changed by Lenovo officials posting on this site that there was, in fact, an update in the making. The majority of us are NOT expecting enterprise level support, but if you post on this site and proport yourself as someone in management level at Lenovo, and promise that something like the update that has been promised here is coming, I think it isn't too much to ask for that:

  1. that promise be followed through on
  2. that we receive some sort of update once in a while
  3. we not be kept in the dark and treated like mushrooms when a promised timeframe falls through.

That being said, I believe that Mark is trying to ensure that the statements and promises he made here are followed through and delivered upon, and he has attempted to keep us up to date. I believe that he is trying to ensure that what they release is going to live up to the standards of typical Lenovo products. I too work in a large enterprise environment as an IT specialist and we use Lenovo computer equipment. Their laptops and workstation desktops are top notch. I believe that the same effort has been placed into the hardware on their tablet line but the software and firmware support is lacking.

I do not believe that it is too much to ask, when you consider that Lenovo has changed the meaning of this forum by posting expected release timeframes for OS upgrades, that it is not too much to ask that we receive regular(read weekly) updates as to the progress of that release, again, taking into account that the intended OS release is now just 3 days short of being a month late. Everyone on this forum has asked for lenovo to say something regarding ICS, but Lenovo is who changed the rules by posting what they intended. No one made them, so now that the cat is out of the bag, however late it is, how about some weekly updates to keep the masses at bay.

the HC is buggy and I believe the ICE will fix these issues I brought two K1 and both had problems after the HC updates, one did not want to power on and the other  touchsreen stop working if you power it  off for too long, some apps has to be force to stop, because of issues with the K1 tablet . I believe the ICE will fix the issues with the K1.I have ICE on the HP touchpad since FEB, and we prefer it for now  :smileysad:
