Re: Ice Cream Sandwich for Ideapad K1

Well, in defense of Mark and Lenovo, the average tablet user is not as capable as the users on this board and Lenovo have to "stress test" any update that they relase officially.  If 50 people want ICS and can handle (for example) the lack of USB connectivity, 50,000 do not and can not.

I found this on a blog site, it even has the file to download and procedure. I'm wondering if this will actually work. I don't want to try it and brick my A1.

What are you talking about? What "stress test"? Do you know the story with K1 64Gb update and how it become almost always a brick after OTA update? What TEST? Did they test it at all? Lots of people think that K1 is rubish because of this kind of update that killed their tablet.

I can clearly see how they work now. They can not keep their word.

Mark did you ask them to release the build without the play store for those of us who don't want to wait anymore?

Dear Lenovo K1 Development Team:
Please release the Source Code for the K1 ICS and i predict in between 1 Week there will be the first working ICS for the K1 available. There are a bunch of really good Android Developer around.. (sorry to say this) but i guess not in your Team.

You do realize this thread is about the K1, not the A1?

My only 2 cents:  as far as I know,  no one made ICS working on the K1.   Well, it all depends on how you interpret the term "working".   If "working" is booting the device up to the launcher screen and surf on the Web,  well,  Khanning did it very well in a quite short amount of time and even apparently with JB.   But this is only Alpha version with half working apps and hardware.   This is not my interpretation of "working".    Khanning stopped investing time consuming efforts since Lenovo's announcement and will all respect I have to all community devs in the world,  this are no guaranties anyone could pretend having a full -- I mean full -- running ICS version on K1 before Lenovo.   Otherwise,  I would immediately challenge Khanning to resume his work and be proud of beating Lenovo at the finish line.

BTW,  Lenovo doesn't have to give anyone ICS source code,  it's already available from Google.  Yes, anyone could benefit what Lenovo did so far with all hardware drivers,  what Khanning apparently didn't complete,  but this is giving too much importance to community.   I hate when "joe knows all" make such comments because they use to underate challenges.   In fact I wished Khanning shares his experience here to better enlight the situation.

And BTW #2,   K1 3.2.1 is  HC,  not GB.   If  HC is Windows Vista,  the GB is Windows XP.

Pretty sure he was talking about kernel source. If Lenovo releases ICS Kernel source. Like they are supposed to anyways, then we could have a working build within a couple days a fully customized and stable custom build within weeks/end of summer.
