IdeaPad Tablet K1 USB Connector (US) revisited

2012-09-03, 14:26 PM

During the lengthy runup to the official release of ICS there were a few complaints voiced about the lack of a USB host cable being shipped with most K-1s. Now that we have ICS (and even JB) in various "official" and "AOSP" flavors my thoughts traveled back to my pending order for that cable. Just now I checked it. I ordered it on July 29 and it shows that it's 'estimated ship date' is Sept 2 with delivery expected Sept 10. I will be sure to report back when I receive it...if I receive it. Though I'm happy with my K-1's performance under JB AOSP I still have misgivings about Lenovo's customer service. To think that the only real help available is via a peer-to-peer forum is pretty shabby.

I agree, Lenovo definitely dropped the ball on the USB Host cable, and I hope your order comes through as scheduled.  I was lucky enough to get mine back in late April (after ordering in March), and got caught up in some of the furor regarding it's availability.  In retrospect, it's definitely nice to have it, but I really don't use it that much.  Sometimes I put some transcoded movies on a flash drive, and plug it in via the cable, so I can watch them without having to copy them into the tablet storage.  Or use it to view/transfer photos.  For keyboard/mouse, it's much more convenient to use Bluetooth.  So it's definitely a "nice to have", but certainly not a "can't live without".

I too have one on order. It's supposed to ship tomorrow. I am curious to see if it actually does. I will check the status and see.

Well I checked on 9/5 and my ship date was changed to 9/8. But now there is a delivery date of 9/14. I wonder if it will really ship on Saturday! I will check and see when the day comes.

Well, I just checked my order status again and it has changed again. Now it says the cable will ship on 9/12 and deliver on 9/19. I wonder if they will just keep changing the dates to keep me on the hook or if they are really planning on sending one someday. Maybe they are waiting for enough orders to make another run of the cables.

Got the same email today. AFAIK there is no way to transfer large files in anything that could be considered 'hi-speed'. If removing and reinserting the micro SD card weren't such a pain I'd do that, although I seem to remember that the quick start guide says NOT to repeatedly remove and replace the SD card. Lenovo support leaves a lot to be desired. When the time comes t upgrade my Lenovo laptop I might just go ... crazy. I almost tyoed macbook. Ugh :-)

I got the same email too. Bummer! It was worth a try tho. I had small hopes that we would really get the adapter anyway.
