Ideapad K1 lost wifi connection (very often)

2011-12-12, 17:26 PM

Hi,

I have my ideapad K1 tablet since two weeks and I lost my network connection very often.  I have changed my router for a new Lynksys E3000 that I have configure in WPA/WPA2.  When I am sitting in the same room of my router I only have 3 of 4 signal line on my tablet.  And if I move in other room the signal drop to 1 line and sometime I lost it.  But my bigger concern is when I turn my tablet into sleep mode because sometime when I turn it back on I see network disconnect and I can't turn it on.  I need to turn my tablet OFF and ON to have my network back.

Here are my tablet setting:  Kernel version 2.6.36.3,  Build number is K1_A301_02_02_110930_CA,  Android 3.1.

Do you have the same problem?  And do you have a fix for me?

My children have IPOD touch and they never have problem like that even with my old lynksys WRT54GL.  They have better signal reception than I have.  I'm not sure what is the best for me to do keep my lenovo tablet or change it for an IPAD.

Thanks

I had weaker wifi signal at some distance, compared with my laptop. I saw some others in the forum had same issue too.

It could be hardware issue.

I have a similar issue. Bought a Linksys E4200 hoping that would help and it didn't. Did you load Wifi Analyzer for the tablet. Also if you have a pc with wireless load inSSIder 2.0 to view the wireless on another device. I find the pc is a little better for receiving signal. The issue I have is connections drop when I listen to XM radio and I have to reload XM radio.

Tach, What happens if you connect to your wi-fi and allow the tablet to sit with the wi-fi analyzer app open and monitoring? Do you have a consistent signal? What type of flucuation do you see? And/or how long do you stay connected before your signal drops? Connection to my e4200, e3000 and early model wrt54g2 is rock solid. What type of security are you using? What did you select for channel separation, and finally what channel is your 2.4 radio broadcasting on? If you are also broadcasting on 5Ghz, I'd recommend uing a different SSID name for that broadcast. In the end however, channel separation and the channel you've selected can yield the best results.

Thanks,
Ricochet

The dropping off of the SiriusXM connection is normal.  They usually drop you some where around 60 to 90 min depending on network activity.  It's a feature.

I have had luck using the App for a few hours at a time.  I think their flash interface really sucks with those tiny lines to use for choosing channels.

I'm here you wish you were too

If i compare my tablet with wifi analyzer and my PC with InSSider 2.0 my tablet always change between -62 dBm and -70 dBm and my PC is stable at -45 dBm (better signal).  The security I use is WPA/WPA2 and MAC address.  Also I always close wifi analyzer,  really close not running in background.  My wifi connection with my tablet is not stable sometime that's  OK the all the day and sometime after few minutes I lost it.

I don't know if it's a hardware problem of software problem.  May be lenovo have problem with some wifi receiver?

My E4200 is located in a 3rd bedroom upstairs wired to a PC and Printer. And a USB Hard Drive. I use my Laptop and K1 on the main floor. Depending on where I sit the router is usually just above me. I could have a floor and maybe a floor+wall for the signal to pass through. I'm still working with Cisco on my new E4200. Right now my channel is set to 9 per their instruction with channel width set to (20 MHz or 40MHz). I have 8 networks around me covering the 3 main channels. Also I can only bind as 20MHz. I want 40MHz for the network drive that I have connected. I have it on Mixed mode because the Wii is a Wireless-G. Both 5GHz and 2.4GHz have different SSID names. On K1 Wifi Analyzer reports 60dB - 65dB. Some times it jumps up to the 50Db range however that is less consistent. Can go as low as 70Db. I can move it a foot and it will jump 10Db. Sort of odd to me. Toshiba Laptop Satellite A665 (with a wireless device Realtek RTL8191SE). InSSider 2.0 reports 52dB to 59dB. Usually closer to 52Db. And it is stable. I use WPA2 personal and MAC address filtering.

Tach, Sounds like you are getting your network dialed in. I am very pleased with the e4200's performance. Like you, it is serving a multi level home. My experience with it has been good. G & N radios are using different SSID name 2.4Ghz broadcast is G only, 20mhz channel sep, channel 11, WPA/TKIP 5 Ghz broadcast is N only, 40mhz channel sep, picked a random channel - not auto, WPA2/AES MAC filtering enabled Roku is the only 5Ghz device in my home. Everything else is 2.4. I tested the tablet using 2.4 N and had excellent results, but typically connect G I can see approx 20 access points in my vecinity. Pretty saturated. Only my neighbors airport is close enough to cause interference, so we stay away from each others channels. Try setting your 2.4 to G only, then N only for testing.stickvwith 20mhz chan sep and see if your connectivity improves. Jus a thought.

Thanks,
Ricochet
