K1-RIP

2012-03-23, 17:50 PM

Depending on how you reach the K1 site it says either Out of Stock or coming in from the main Lenovo page it no longer lists the K1 as a IdeaPad. The only IdeaPad that is now available is the A1. While I realize that there have been many problems and unfilled promises from Lenovo for this model, I wish all of the owners of the K1 success in dealing with what appears to have become an orphan.

I only hope that the A1 is not thrown out on the trash. It has been remarkably reliable for me and it does what I need with a minimum of fuss and trouble. Will miss the K1 community if they leave (yes, I do read posts about both systems).

"Temporarily sold out — more stock is expected" is what I see for the K1 at this link.

Yes, the US site states the K1 is no longer available at lenovo.com

The K1 hardware-wise is a OK product at 300$. Why anyone would want to associate or support an orgaization like Lenovo is another question. I look forward to reading about them eventually going bankrupt.

For what it is worth, I just finished a  "web chat" with Lenovo sales, and they confirmed the K1 has been discontinued.

Lenovo's Canada site has them on sale for $399 with an eCoupon code CAP130436U:

Lenovo - IdeaPad K1 tablet

For what it's worth, I paid $349 at Best Buy before Christmas, they dropped to $329 for a while, and last time I checked they're $299:

Lenovo K1 at Best Buy Canada

Seems like clearance pricing to me...

Now if Lenovo is the company they used to be, the K1 will still be supported until the last user's warranty expires. Now if they will just support the tablet as is! Still looking for some fixes on 3.2. It does appear ICS is not going to happen. This has actually been my worst experience with bleeding edge technology. I bought this tablet with a trust in the Lenovo name, sorry your tablet didn't sell well Lenovo. It's called marketing and value, the only thing you got right was value and even that is questionable. Now that we haven't received an update in some time, it appears we only got value (maybe). I was very sad to see that even the small french company Archos was updating their poorly built tablets to ICS. I guess we will be punished for supporting this organization. Looking forward to having some news on this from Android Central Engadget, Etc.

All,

Warranty support remains in place.   I'm not sure if we have had an official withdrawal from marketing, but I would expect that to happen at some point.  For products that have a proven series - take the Idea Y series Y510 was withdrawn and replaced by the Y530, the Y550, the Y560, Y570, Y580, etc,  it is more clear when one winds down after 9-12 months that another will be arriving soon.

Since the tablets are new, and there are a number of orphaned products in the industry, I can appreciate why that might be a concern.   It may well be that next generation product could appear.

Regarding ICS for the K1, I'm not sure what the final outcome on that will be.   We've shared the forum  feedback with the product teams, and I don't think we have a final answer yet.

Mark

That's bad, that's very bad. The tablet is new but discontinued. This is by far my worst experience regarding the purchase of a product.

First time it happen to me to read that the product use "X" technology when it fact it uses "Y" technology. Same thing for the USB cable, why Mark did you ask us to be patient for something that will be released AFTER the tablet is discontinuated ? That means folks that the cable doesn't exist, the catalog thing is a lie, or maybe there's around 3 cables available sold by Lenovo's staff that doesn't need it.

I can also expect NOTHING for the source code issue for the K1, why Lenovo will release the source code (and pay staff to work on it) if the tablet is discontinued ?

We have a tablet with NO accessories because of your proprietary connector. This tablet is a FAIL just because of all LENOVO's lies.

Hey Lenovo staff,

Can you confirm that this is another lie on your website ? Can you confrm that more stock is NOT expected ?

@Mods, the images size is 15k, no need to put it as a link.

If we (K1 owner) can use the accessories of the K2, that's fine. This is just evolution. But if Lenovo has just stop anything that can fit the K1, I'll be very disappointed.
