If we (K1 owner) can use the accessories of the K2, that's fine. This is just evolution. But if Lenovo has just stop anything that can fit the K1, I'll be very disappointed.

Ah, yes, but where is the K2, Usually you discontinue a product along with announcing the replacement, or even better the older model is still available for a short period of time.

You're right, that's why I'm expecting less than nothing.

callback79,

I've inquired with our sales team and production on K1 is ending / has ended.  There is some remaining stock  (as of this afternoon) on the Canadian model numbers, so they should still be orderable while supplies last.   Supplies are limited.

I've inquired again on  the USB host cable and ICS status today.

So that means that these tablets are doomed to die without ever having basic problems fixed? This is really sad. How hard is it to fix a darn software glitch that has the compass off 90 degrees? Obviously I made a bad decision to buy a Lenovo product... :smileysad:

@Ssayer - if you need a compass app that is NOT 90 degrees off, Smart Compass Lite shows the correct orientation.

I found out about it as many phones give are 90 Degrees off when using the most common compass apps, and Smart Compass does not.  I think the compass problem has something more to do with Android, its interface with applications, or the SDK itself that coders are given to create apps.

Man alive! If you need a compass, get one from Academy or somewhere... Many machines have been orphaned over the years. Even cars... I remember in 1963 we got a new Stuibaker dealer in our home town. How do you think the owner of the dealership felt when in 1964 Studibaker died...?? We don't own the dealership, we just own the car... And I for one will keep driving and even hotroding it until I crash it. And I still love my K-1!!!!!

The problem here is the proprietary connector. If you had a flat tire on your car, you were able to use another tire even if it was not from your dealer. But I'm sure you will understand when the charger on your K1 will die. Good luck.

@mcgam2000

I am glad you love your K1.  Ssayer's frustration with the compass is just the tip of the iceberg when dealing with issues people have come across with the K1.  Studebaker went out of business in 1967.  If you are going to use a car analogy, most car manufacturers that discontinue models or brands continue to support the car for up to 10 years after the fact (as long as they remain in business).  Examples of such support is Ford's continued support of the Ranger, GM's continued support of Saab, Pontiac, and Saturn cars, etc.

Lenovo is still in business, but has not (so far) done anything to make purchasers believe they will support a product in good faith.

When I first was looking at tabs, I wasn't sure whether a tab would fulfill what I wanted it for, so considered one of the various $100 to $125 dollar tabs that you can order direct from China.  The tabs always come with the latest Android flavor, they are all built using generic parts, and are actually fairly well built for the price point.  BUT, I was also realistic in that I knew something like that comes with NO support, usually NO updates, and you'd be lucky if you can get a replacement even if it's defective out of the box.  Such is the expectation with such a product.

THIS IS LENOVO - not a no-name company that operates out of an assigned apartment in China.  People purchase items from companies like Lenovo (and pay the price premium over the no-name tabs) with the expectation that a large multi-billion dollar conglomerate like Lenovo, especially with its storied history of quality products and support, would not turn their backs on its customers.

Sadly, the Lenovo of today is NOT the Lenovo of yesterday.  People aren't frustrated that a compass app doesn't work, people are frustrated because of how Lenovo is handling the WHOLE SITUATION that goes far beyond a compass app.

I guess that since I have had little or no problem with my K-1 I have little to complain about and yes I also bought a cheep tablet from China , rooted it and then bought a K-1. Now that Lenovo is droping the K-1 I will not hesitate to root it or change it any way I want... And since I cut my teeth on crude computers, I always look for work-arounds and figure how to fix stuff... I have spent over 40 years fixing things, mechanical, electrical, and electronic. So I have a higher tolorence for gliches...

Just my 2 cents worth...
