K1 not booting after update

2011-09-26, 21:58 PM

Is there a way to load an update from a PC? After downloading an update the K1 produced a bunch of forced close messages, I though doing a factory reset may help but booting from the reset I receive these messages when turning on the device.

Unsupported menu option selected: 1

Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x00000002)

Model: 20115

I'm wondering if the system update image may have been corrupted with the download.

Kind regards

Alex

Re: K1 not booting after update

I managed to recover the tablet with the nvflash toolset that is linked to elsewhere on this forum. Unfortunatly the recovered system was in Chinese and an ovious earlier build. I then again did a software update via the About Tablet tab in the setting menu to see if an update was available. Indeed there was an update and the tablet proceeded to download it, after the download completed I was prompted if I would like to install the update and I said yes.

After the reboot the same error occurs, Lenovo logo and in the top left

Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x00000002)

Unsupported menu option selected: 1

I am less convinced now that the OTA was corrupted during the transfer not with two different versions downloaded. I do not know if the model 20115 is specific to the EMEA market. It may have some modifications to the ROM that are different to other models and  the update manager may be downloading the wrong ROM update for the specific hardware.

I do know it renders the unit useless unless recovered. I have reported this to the distributor in my region and as mine was to be a demo for my customers they have halted further imports untill there is a resolution.

For those interested to enable APX mode on the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 press both volume buttons and the power button. When the lights next to the OFN (Home) button light up release the power button then the volume buttons.

I see, if only someone was able to Port the Stock files to ODIN. ODIN for phones have fixed many bricked systems.

Hmmm, not sure why, but the update worked fine for me yesterday. I was 801 and updated to the new 829.

Re: K1 not booting after update

This has been bugging me some and have been giving it some more thought. I have no answers just speculating on the strangeness of the problem.

The tablet worked perfectly after using nvflash although it was the wrong ROM and language. But the problem surfaced again with the OTA update of the flashed ROM. Why would a ROM that was flashed work over an OTA update that was applied in the recovery mode. Maybe something in the way the OTA is written to the flash is an issue with the specific tablet I had. Thank you for your feedback.

Thank you for the tip, I have managed to switch the tablet to english. BUT the build number is K1_A301_01_110729_CN this ROM does not include any Google apps or the ability to create a Google Account. The tablet is currently downloading the OTA again and I hope it will resolve the issue. But if that does not work it would be nice to have a way to be able to load the OTA download from the support site via USB. Does anyone know if there a process for doing this?

The OTA has run and the build is now K1_A301_02_02_110922_CN but still no Google Market or applications. I can also not add a Google Account.

If you originally had the US version use this OTA...

829_US

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets/OTA-TEST-Roms/m-p/554441#M448

The above link mentions how to update it.

Give it a shot and let us know.

Re: K1 not booting after update

2011-10-07, 1:20 AM

I did just that yesterday morning for a few hours. Unfortunatly with no luck either. Everytime I "recover" the K1 with the nvflash utility the system works fine sans all the additional sofware, but as soon as I to an online OTA or do the update method discovered in this post by jasoneisert the K1 reboots from the update and works perfectly. But power the unit off and it needs to do a cold boot the same error message occurs;

Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x00000002)

Unsupported menu option selected: 1

Apparently another unit with the same issue has shown up with my distributor so I'm at a loss to explain the issue unless it's some fault in the way the OTA gets written the flash or there is a subtle difference in the hardware spec for Africa. I have tried three of the OTA ROMs some of them from the Test tree but all end in the same disaster K1 not booting. Fortunatly I have received a credit for the K1. Perhaps the K1 3G model will be a little more stable when that is released here, or even the ThinkPad tablet.
