Probably you have wifi on and you are getting data from wifi and not gps.

In case you want to go back to the problematic firmware you can either use OTA upgrade (which is what I did the first time, then I had the issue as discussed above, and after a month I downgraded to 4.2.2 ) or you can download the raw firmware from below and upgrade using the same method as firmware 4.2.2 (see youtube above).

https://cloud.mail.ru/public/f31d11b99acd/A3500FL_A442_01_27_141127_ROW.rar

I have not checked if the manual installation fixes the problem of the gps and wifi or not.  OTA upgrade disabled gps and caused wifi problems for me.

----------

Part2......

I have taken this issue one step further.

I have updated again but this time manually with the 4.4.2 firmware (the firmware link in this post using the same procedure as in youtube).

After booting up and setting the wifi password and USA language the system update found a new firmware S27 to S29.

I though that the gps problems were caused because maybe from my different language option, so this time I did not modify the language option (USA).

I did the update.

(Note the European OTA update from 4.2.2 was S26)

After restarting in order to install the firmware update I downloaded the GPS Test from Play Store.

The GPS sattelites are recognised this time.

I dont know what was the problem with OTA update but the manual update sorts out at least the gps problem.

I hope that this info helps.

Enjoy.

I found this for the Wi-Fi problem:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Android-based-Tablets/Lenovo-A3500-FL-wifi-issue/m-p/2111503#M24750

check the last comment, the one with the encryption on the wifi router.

I dont know if it works as I still haven't tested it

Thanks. I have changed the wireless security encryption from aes to tkip. I will post my findings in a few days.

 Update

SEEMS TO WORK. Even when rebooting I had to turn WiFi off and on in order to connect to the internet.  Now it is fine. Thanks for your recommendation.

Update

I confirm that now I have an excellent tablet without any wifi problems. Cheers for your suggestion. Please lenovo correct the wifi AES encryption problem.
